Vikarabad,Ananthagiri Hills

I drive to Anathagiri Hills at least 5 times a year, every time I visit, I discover something new.

List of places discovered:

1.Forest trail, which can be accessed via temple. (safe to visit with families)

2.Multiple View points.

3.Lake.

4.Telangana tourism for food and washrooms.

5.Kotepally reservoir. (Ananthagiri Hills to kotepally distance is around 20 kilometers)

6.Kayaking by Telangana tourism at Kotepally reservoir, you can book a slot online.

7.Waterfalls at Kotepally. (water will be visible only during monsoon, currently it is active.)

Google maps, location details : (Click on the name for maps)
1. Ananthagiri Hills temple

2. Ananthagiri Hills view point

3. Ananthagiri Hills lake  (Drive further till you find a left turn)

4. Kotepally reservoir  (Kotepally reservoir has two route, one will lead to dam, other will lead to Kayaking)

Thank you. Now it is perfect time to visit. Kotepally reservoir is overflowing currently. New roads are laid. You will enjoy the drive for sure.

Amazing pics Gowtham and nice write up!!! This is the Best time to visit ananthagiri hills and explore the forest!! I think there is one more kayaking from hills and valley resorts!! But Kotpally kayaking is far better than hills and valley due to it's water level. It is Worth visiting this place!!

@gowtham  Hi bro, awesome pictures. Could you please tell me the location of the waterfall in vikarabad..? I have been there many a times but i haven't heard about it any time..

You can find one, en-route to Kotepally reservoir. It is small in size. You need to cross Anathagiri Hills. This is usually visible (in monsoon), when there is excess water in the reservoir.

Hills and valley is nice. But don't expect too much as shown in their website. If you are interested in camping, it is ideal.

Places to visit:

1.Temple

2. Forest trek (Use the temple steps to go inside the forest)

3. View points

4. Vikarabad lake

5. Kotipally lake (Kayaking)

Food:

1. Telangana tourism Haritha.

2. Hills and Valley.

I came to know Ananthagiri hills lately. I want to visit Ananthagiri hills with my girlfriend on this weekend. I have few questions on it

  1. Is this preferable to go on the bike? ( we are going to return on the same day)
  2. Is this convenient to go in this season?
  3. What is the best route from Gachibowli, I  found three routes, which way best to travel on the bike with my girlfriend (it would be good if we have less traffic with good shade)?

1. Yes it is preferable to go on bike.(merely 70-75 Km from ORR Entrance of Gachibowli, so around 140-150 KM up down)

2. For me & my wife, monsoon is the ultimate choice to go to this place, as the greenery of ananthgiri hills looks beautiful during monsoon. As its been quite hot in the last couple of days here in Hyderabad, I would not suggest to go there right now, try it after a thunder shower.

3. Again our personal choice would be Gachibowli --> moinabad --> chevella --> manneguda --> vikarabad. Early morning ride through this road has been quite lovely due to its surrounded green countryside. Some of the stretch is really nice. But be careful.

Both of you, please wear helmet & drive safe & enjoy!

Cheers.

This place is beautiful during winter and monsoon, may not be ideal in summer.

I would suggest you the following plan to beat the heat.

  • Start early in the morning by 6AM, you will reach by vikarabad by 8AM. Hyderabad to Ananthagiri hills roads are new and excellent. You will enjoy the bike ride.
  • Carry cash, no proper ATM facilities/swiping machines.
  • If you want to do Kayaking, go to Kotepally directly and explore the Ananthagiri hills on the return ride. (Kayak opens at 9AM)
  • Explore Anathagiri hills  and have breakfast at Haritha hotel. Break fast buffet costs around 150/- per head.
  • While coming back you can have lunch at Mrugavani resort before entering the city.

Ride safe and all the best. :)
Do click some pictures and share us, badly miss this place. Moved to Bangalore due to work.:(

^^This is the best route. Avoid other routes, they are not worth it.

Nice information pralay and driveking.

Start early in the morning, you can come back home by 2 PM.
Carry water, it will keep you hydrated.

If I am in your shoes, I would takeoff by 5 AM. (due to summer)

Anyone has an update whether Kotpally kayaking is opened now?

It is not predictable, it is opened and closed randomly.
They are giving all weird reasons.

Only option is to go and check!
My guess, it should be opened now.

I have been there 2 weeks back.. even though it was not raining and the water content was suitable, we were not allowed to do it. Our trip to do Kayaking turned out to be a disappointment as I had gone with my family exclusively for that.

We are planning to visit Anantagri Hills and Kotepally dam in the last week of June with family.
Is it the right time ? Can we get into the water - is it safe ? Also suggest how should we plan the day for best utilization of time.
Thanks :)

We are planning for a Day out - No Stay. With Family, elders and kids along. Please let know the best way to schedule the day. Also apart from kayaking can we just feel the water, I mean atleast get into it till knee deep ? Also are there any chances the dam will overflow by June last week ? And heard that the Anantagiri hills will be dry in summer, is it right time ?

These pictures were taken near the kotepally reservoir? I visited a place similar to this during June 2017 when I was unable to find the place for Kayaking and ended up here..

Actually there are two lakes around Vikarabad.
Those pictures are from the lake near to Ananthagiri hills.
Kotepally reservoir is located little far away from the Ananthagiri hills.

From you pictures, I think you have visited the lake which is near to Ananthagiri hills. This is not kotepally lake.

Then it is Kotepally.
On which month did you go?
We went there twice during monsoon and winter.
Both the times Kayaking was available.

I think it will be stopped during summer.
Water level in your pictures look too low.

This pictures is taken post monsoon, water is flowing over the reservoir.
31.jpg

Also there are multiple entries to the Kotepally reservoir.
Kayaking was available only at one point, you need to take mud track.

There is other road which leads directly to the reservoir. I remember that path gets narrow once we approach the check-dam.

Yes Gautam.. I think we took the wrong route.. first we went on a route which lead us to the dam directly.. we needed to drive on the dam.. but that seemed risky .. so we came back and took other route which lead us to the place which was shown in the pictures.. In the picture that you posted above, I am not able to see the dam where as in the picture that I posted, Dam will be visible on one corner.. We went thr in the month of May end or June 1st week.

Officially camping is not allowed in Ananthagiri hills.
10 people can draw attention. If it is a smaller number , you can manage.
You can contact Hill and Valley resort guys.

There are so safety issues in Vikarabad/Ananthagiri.

Also your group is big.

Take rent from HATS club(Dheeraj)

He can also guide you the location to camp.

There are some private fields, where you can camp.

There are two Kayaking options in Vikarabad.

1. Kotepally

2. Sarpanapally lake

Kotepally kayaking is organised by a govt contractor.

Sarpanpally lake kayaking is organised by hills and valley owners.

Kayaking is good only in the evenings.

Don't try it during afternoon.

Life jackets are provided at both the venues and they are safe.

As part our team outing we went to hills and valley adventure park.

The food is ok and the events at the park are good.

Like zipline, commando net, ATVs etc.
As part of package they also arranged kayaking in sarpanpally lake.

It was pretty good and I took 2 laps on each boat 2 people can sit.

It was in year 2016 I attended. Resort has a stay and they took us inside a forest for few km.

So need to check the conditions in the resort now and the water level in the lake.

When I'm travelling in last month via this lake on train found not much water in the lake. So check before you make a plan.

Hey Shiva, We have visited this place while in construction during our last breakfast drive to Vikarabad. It was supposedly going to get inaugurated this month. Checked with the prices and felt it wasn't worthy enough. They quoted 1800 INR per head for camping and food per night. Let's wait and see until it opens up fully :D

Hyderabad to Hamsaladeevi Beach - A hidden Paradise

After a long wait for the December trip, we kick started our vacation to the most beautiful Hamsaladeevi beach located in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

Usually many of them skip this place due to lack of accommodation, but you will find a decent stay in Vijayawada which is around 80 kms approximately from Hamsaladeevi. It is definitely worth travelling so far to see the beauty of this Sagara Sangamam, where river Krishna meets the Bay of Bengal.

We started at an early hour from Hyderabad and reached Vijayawada by 10 AM and checked into the OYO hotel. There are no food joints available at Hamsaladeevi beach so we packed the lunch from the hotel and headed out. Vijayawada to Hamsaladeevi drive took us 3 hours with some breaks.

Hamsaladeevi village is 24 kms away from Avanigadda and we reached Hamsaladeevi by 3 PM. After a long drive from Hyderabad, there was an adrenaline rush gushing out to see this most beautiful place and couldn't wait to snap the sandy beach and the 'river-beach' meeting point. This point is 2 km away from the beach (From Hamsaladeevi village, beach is 4 kms) and we drove our car on the beach side shore to the port to see the confluence.

      Distance : 376 km
