Hyderabad to Hampi Route updates

Monsoon season, it is time to hit the road more often.

Recently, we did Hyderabad to hampi road trip.

There are many route suggestion but after experimenting different routes. This is the best route we did so far.

Route:

Hyderabad -->Mahbubnagar--> Raichur-->Sindhanur --> Gangavati --> Hampi

  1. Hyderabad to Mahbubnagar : 4-lane road with toll road. Road condition is excellent.
  2. Mahbubnagar to Gangavati : 2-lane road with unexpected speed bumps. Road condition is above average, nothing alarming.
  3. Gangavati to Hampi: 2-lane road condition is poor with potholes and narrow roads.

We found the above route better than Gooty and shorter.

Gooty to Hampi is in bad shape and is longer by around 80 kilometers.

Details and pictures from our previous trip to Hampi.

Planning my road journey from Nagpur to Hampi via hyderabad, Raichur. Any highway hotel on hyderabad to raichur stretch?

No proper Hotels between Hyderabad and Raichur
You can try Papyrus port resort, but it is not worth the money.

I would suggest you to stay before Hyderabad, Many resorts are available at Shamirpet.

  • Leonia
  • Alankrita
  • Celebrity Resort
  • Summer green

All the above resorts are close to Hyderabad ORR.

You can take Hyderabad ORR and directly switch to Bangalore Highway.

Did Bangalore to Hampi via Chitradurga. Bangalore to Chitradurga is excellent road, 4 to 6 lane. Chitradurga onwards 4 laning in progress with lots of diversions and speed bumps. Many places villagers are drying crop on the road which is a menace. Took me about 7 hrs with one lunch break and 2 tea breaks in my Scorpio.

Kurnool  --> Alur --> Ballari

Its 2 way road and many villages. You can expect many speed breakers. In some stretches you can go fast 100 KMPH.

For me Bellary to Kurnool took 3 hrs. I did this on Dec 29th.

From Alur to Bellari, except some 1 km and in 2 stretches, rest of the road is completed.

Many people takes the below rout for Hampi.

Hyderabad -->Mahbubnagar--> Raichur-->Sindhanur --> Gangavati --> Hampi

Not sure about the road condition from Raichur-->Sindhanur --> Gangavati --> Hampi.

Check the other posts in this site.

Thank you for the update.
Any update on accommodation details?

Hampi is a protected Heritage site with no accommodation. Good accommodation is available in Kamalapur (5km). Try Mayuri (Govt KSTDC) and Clarks Inn (both in Rs 3000-3500 range).

Several budget food outlets. Good restaurants in the two Hotels and also Mango Tree for authentic continental, North Indian and Mediterranean fare.

Just did Hampi -> Bellary -> Alur -> Kurnool -> Hyderabad. Took 9 hours including a lunch break and 4 tea breaks.

Hampi - Bellary is ok with 4 Laning under construction and therefore several diversions. Road is ok. Bellary towards Alur is good at the begining but a 30-40 km stretch at Alur is rough. Alur to Kurnool several culverts are under construction and therefore diversions through rough patches. Last 50 km to Kurnool is excellent black top.

4 Lane excellent highway from Kurnool to Hyderabad.

Also note that there are no good eateries between Bellary and Kurnool. So too up accordingly.

I did Hampi - Hyderabad on the 2nd Jan 2018
Route followed: Hampi - Gangavathi - Sindhanur - Raichur - Bhootpur - Hyderabad

Started at ~1:15 pm n reached Hyd (Hitech city) at 6:45pm

Roads were good with Sindhanur as a bad stretch due to road construction.... Once you cross after Raichur, you have the road construction in progress

Here is my detailed travelogue

Hi @sbhamidi As I have read about the roads under construction, I would want to know if there is any alternative best route to reach Hampi instead of this or is this the only option.

I am a resident in Malakpet and planning to do this trip next weeekend. Please suggest me the best route..

Also, how is the temperature around Hampi? Expecting it to be hot, would it be convinient to do it with my wife and a 7 year old kid?

Hello Piyush, this is the best route as the Bellary route is far bad.

Just plan to start early and you should be able to cross Sindhanur earlier.

Hi @sbhamidi

Thanks for your quick response. I will take the same route as suggested. Only thought which is keeping my thought at stake is the summer heat which might affect my kid being a rocky land all over.

Thank you,

best route

Shortest rout is Via Raichur.

But we got updates that Raichur road is under construction.

My current preference is via Kurnool.

Hyderabad --> Kurnool (take right turn) --> Kodumur --> Alur --> Ballari --> Hampi

best hotel/staying options.

Hotels in Hampi are very expensive in December, over priced.

We are driving down this weekend (India-Drive team)
Hope we will catch up en-route.

Hello TriFodians,

I completed Hampi / Hospet road trip during the weekend of 20th Feb, 2021. Here are few updates hopefully will help you plan your future trips:

Evaluated following routes:

1. Mahbubnagar>>Raichur >> Gangavathi >>> Hampi >> Hospet) : 380 Km
I got inconsistent feedback on roads between mahbubnagar and Raichur

2. Beechupalli >> Gadwal >> Raichur>> Gangavathi >>Hampi >> Hospet): 403 Km
I drove on this road in 2017, and I was impressed with the road condition

3. Kurnool >>Alur >>Ballari>>Hospet: (420 Km):
Got a response from one of the Youtuber that roads upto Alur is good; however between Alur >>Ballari >> Hospet is not good. Ballari>>Hospet section is worst in his words. Although once construction is complete it will be better; hopefully in next 6 months or so

Distance between Hampi (Kamalapura/Hampi to Hospet: around 10 km)

Route Taken

Beechupalli >>Gadwal>>Raichur>>>Hospet

  • Up to Beechupalli (around 180 km), wonderful Bengaluru highway (2 tolls: Raikal and Shakapur Rs 65/- each)
  • Beechupalli >>Gadwal (17 Km): again wonderful road (initial 10 Km is single lane)
  • Gadwal to Raichur (58 km): Single lane, scenic and Good (80% section); construction of bridge ongoing at 2 places, and as soon as you enter Raichur, speed bumps have grown like mushroom, and it will bother a lot. After crossing the flyover on Raichur-Lingsugur road, the condition is good until you take left.
  • Raichur >> Manvi (36 Km): As soon as you turn left (after Welcome dhaba) towards Gangavathi, the road is full of potholes. Although, patch work is going on, and should be complete in few months. The drive was rough because of uneven repairing on roads and most of the places are still waiting for repair. I was not able to cross 90 kmph in this section. Even if I do try to touch speed of 100 kmph, strategically planted Speed breakers and potholes were keeping check on my speed. 🙂
  • Manvi >>> Sindhanur (45 Km) : inconsistent (overall okayish) road condition with mix of broken/rough and good roads. Lot of traffic while crossing Sindhanur city.
  • Sindhanur >>>Gangavathi (50 km): This section was good, with speed breakers  before and after intervening village/town. Toll charge Rs 35/-, cash only.
  • Gangavathi>>Hampi>>Hospet: after crossing the the city road was good, with some twists and turns: overall enjoyable. View of Tungbhadra river from Bakkasagar bridge was awesome, including Kamalapura lake on the way to Hospet.

Return trip

TB Dam>>small section of NH50>>Jabbalgudda>> Gangavathi>>Mahbubnagar

This route was very good (upto Sindhanur). The surprise factor was Raichur>>Mahbubnagar, where road condition has improved a lot since the time I drove in 2017. Construction works seems to have reached near completion.

My recommendation is to take MahbubNagar route, as it was faster.

Let me know if you have any specific queries

Happy Road trippin !!

Thank you for your update, very detailed information. I am planning to travel in the 1st week of next month.. Any stay you would like to recommend in Hampi.. I will be traveling with my wife..

HI Mayank,

If you want to stay within Hampi, here is the list in the order of preference:

  • Clarks Inn (price range around 2 K)
  • Kishkinda Heritage resort (2-3 K)
  • Hampi Boulder resort (6 K)
  • I did not evaluate other expensive options but they are good (Evolve Back and WelcomeHeritage Shivavilas)

I chose to stay in Hospet (7 Km from the Gateway of Hampi and 9 Km from Kamalpura lake), for better value for money, including drinks and food. Within Hampi region drinks are not allowed, if any Hotels in Hampi are serving it, they are charging extra. Moreover, I wanted to spend some time at TB dam which is near (3 Km).

My recommendation is

  • Hotel Malligi (< 2 - 3 K).
This provided everything I wanted (swimming pool (yes it was open), good restaurants, and breakfast); overall its a nice property, and great value for money. I recommend to stay in the new wing (Standard AC room and above).

If you want to explore Good Local Food, you can visit Green Restaurant and Catering (https://goo.gl/maps/tpBGgkqaufNQ7B1u7); its an Hippie style place surrounded by Banana plantations, with separate section for Veg and Non-veg, and option  of Thali, ala-carte, international cuisine as well (Israeli and Russian cuisine). They have cottages as well, but it may not be suitable for couple-stay.

Other famous restaurants (Mango tree, Gopi and Sai, around Virupaksha Temple are no longer functional.

I did not go to Sanapur side, as most of the Hippie Island has been destroyed; although you can check Jungle tree Restaurant.

I will be happy to answer any other specific query.

Have a nice trip

Latest update:

I travelled in Feb 21. Mahbubnagar - Raichur route has improved. I am sure in last six months it would have improved more. Road between Raichur till Manvi was under repair work with most of the work was complete. I don't know much about Ballari route, but as per road trippers it could be unpredictable. Another route could be Beeechupalli-Gadwal-Raichur.

Hyderabad to Hamsaladeevi Beach - A hidden Paradise

After a long wait for the December trip, we kick started our vacation to the most beautiful Hamsaladeevi beach located in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

Usually many of them skip this place due to lack of accommodation, but you will find a decent stay in Vijayawada which is around 80 kms approximately from Hamsaladeevi. It is definitely worth travelling so far to see the beauty of this Sagara Sangamam, where river Krishna meets the Bay of Bengal.

We started at an early hour from Hyderabad and reached Vijayawada by 10 AM and checked into the OYO hotel. There are no food joints available at Hamsaladeevi beach so we packed the lunch from the hotel and headed out. Vijayawada to Hamsaladeevi drive took us 3 hours with some breaks.

Hamsaladeevi village is 24 kms away from Avanigadda and we reached Hamsaladeevi by 3 PM. After a long drive from Hyderabad, there was an adrenaline rush gushing out to see this most beautiful place and couldn't wait to snap the sandy beach and the 'river-beach' meeting point. This point is 2 km away from the beach (From Hamsaladeevi village, beach is 4 kms) and we drove our car on the beach side shore to the port to see the confluence.

      Distance : 376 km
      Ride: Honda City
      Fuel : Petrol
      Mileage : 15 kmpl
Hotel : OYO rooms (2000/- per night)

Note: Don't take any diversions from the mentioned route else you might end up between bad conditioned roads and longer distances as you pass
