How it works?

  • NHAI has enabled Fast tags on some of its toll booths across India.
  • Fast tags has dedicated lanes at the toll booths.
  • Once you buy a fast tag they will provide you a sticker which you will be sticking on your vehicle wind shield.
  • You can recharge your fast tag account on the regular basis depending on your travel. It is like a prepaid card.
  • Gates automatically opens when your car pass through the fast tag lane.

Advantages:

  • No need to carry cash.
  • On-line recharge.
  • No need to wait in the long queues.
  • Saves fuel and time.
  • Advantage during the holiday season.
  • Dedicated Fast tag lane.
  • You will receive a text message showing the amount deducted from your fast tag.

Disadvantages:

  • Not implemented across all the toll booths.

Good information guys.

Currently there are about 350 toll booths which accepts the fast tag.

By the end of the year 2016 most of the toll booths accept fast tag.

Anyone bought Fast tag over here? If so please let me know if it is worth it.:D

I read some where that they are providing 10% discount per recharge, If it is true then it is an excellent move by the National Govt.

I tried to register online.

I have filled the details and submitted the form.

Fast tag need to be collected at the nearest toll booth. It is not sent via courier. Money should be paid while collecting it.

I tried the SMS method now. Lets see if they can get the fast tag directly to my home.

You don't need ICIC bank account for this facility. Anyone can apply for it.

You can avail ICICI Bank FASTag just by sending an SMS & our executive will call you within 48 hrs. SMS - ITOLL(Space)Pincode(Space)Name to 5676766. Example ITOLL 400051 Kumar

Guys finally I got a call from ICICI representative.

He informed me all the details related to Fast Tag. He also asked me; how many Fast Tags required.

During the conversation with him, I got to know that a single Fast Tag cannot be used on different cars. It should be different for different cars.

After a long wait ICICI Agent showed up at my office(today).

Following are required

  • Passport size Photo.
  • Bank Check (500/- per car)
  • Address proof photo copy.
  • Vehicle Registration card photo copy.

He took few signatures. He has given us a small demo on, How the fast tag works. Later he said Fast Tag will be delivered to my address in 15 to 20 days

Reason given by him for the delay, they will map the car data to the Fast Tag.

I felt the whole process is very old. But we do not have any other alternatives.

Wait game begins again.

Did anyone use it?

How is the real time experience?

When I was travelling between Bangalore to Hyderabad all the fast tag lanes are filled with normal vehicles.

Even I made cash payment and passed from that lane.:P

On some tolls fast tag lanes are blocked with barricades.

Somehow that detector failed to scan the tag and we made cash payment:angry:. I think position of the tag must be in the middle of the front mirror to work properly. Did anyone else try fast tag? If so please let me know the experiences with it.:)

Proper detection is still an issue.

Toll guys are suggesting to stick the fast-tag on the centre(near rear view mirror), some are suggesting to stick on the left side (away from driver side).

My fast-tag is on right side. It wont get detected half of the time.

I tried to remove, but if I remove it wont work.

Need to get new sticker.

Quick update.

My fast tag is not working properly due to detection issues.
I have applied for the new fast tag using PayTM

Following is the procedure:

1.Buy a Fast tag via Paytm app. Price 500/-
Screenshot_20170912-080510.png

2. You will receive a SMS asking for few details related to vehicle (Keep the car RC scan copy)

Screenshot_20170912-080523-01.jpeg

3. Once you send the details, Fast tag will be dispatched to your Paytm delivery address

4. Once the Fast tag is dispatched, your Paytm will show Fast tag recharge section

Planning to wait at least until tag scanning issues are resolved / get better.

Most of the issues are resolved with the new fast tag.
Old fast tag has detection issues, many people (like me) applied the sticker on the corner.
It should be in the middle for proper detection.

Sadly, fast tag doesn't work on Hyderabad ORR.
It should be implemented.

We are facing huge waiting time at Gachibowli  toll, during the long weekends.

It's not national highway. It comes under GHMC. Tweet to KTR, probably he will understand :)

Yeah.
I guess Bangalore elevated tollway has their own tag?

Something similar can be implemented on the Hyderabad ORR.
Problem is we need scanners at all the entries/exits

No expiry date as far as I know.
Did they ask you for vehicle details?
Keep the vehicle RC pictures in your mobile.
You need to upload them to the messaged URL.

Still I didn't receive the message that requests vehicle details. Yeah! Keeping the RC pic ready.

I am using it. It is good. No more waiting at Toll booths.
Most of the national highways have dedicated fast tag lane.

Generally, it is activated as soon as you receive it. In some cases, there are activation delays.
Once you receive the fast tag, contact the customer care and make sure your fast tag is active.

If it is not active, they will ask you to mail the fat tag ID and RC pictures again.

Great, i think Paytm fast-tag is easy to use when compared with ICICI fast-tag
Recharge procedure is little cumbersome in ICICI, we have separate portal and login details.

I will better switch to Paytm fast-tag.

People who are purchasing new fast-tag go with Paytm, It is very user friendly compared to ICICI.

I faced a weird issue while using fast-tag

  • Last month during our drive to Bangalore.
  • Fast-tag lane is filled with regular traffic. (most of the lanes are closed)
  • The lane beside the fast-tag lane has been opened, So as usual people started jumping lanes.
  • Even I moved to that lane and decided to pay cash.
  • Paid the cash and drove away.
  • Once I reached Bangalore, I got a Paytm message for the deduced amount. ?
  • Later when I searched web, I got know there are some issues with fast tag.
  • Fast-tag scanner can scan vehicles which are present in the next lane.
  • People using fast-tag should be cautious about this issue

I faced the similar ones  when i traveled to Bengaluru.

-At some Toll Booths they blocked the fasttag lane entrance as folks who do not have fast tag are also entering that lane and defying the whole purpose of "fast"tag but the time taken for the guard to come and check if you have fast-tag and remove the barricade is slower than going to a different lane-pay cash and leave.. (again defying the whole purpose of fast-tag).

-Fast-tag is  slower than normal lanes if there is a Q. Fast-tag is fast when there is no Q. No need of fast-tag when there is no Q.. Pay cash in any lane and go .. :P:D

-And there are chances that fast-tag lane scanner would scan your tag even if you are in another lane (you pay cash plus money gets deducted).. I got refund for 2(40 and 30 i guess) automatically but no refund for 100(twice).

No, I don't have patience to fight those guys.

And I miss placed the toll receipts ?

This is the major problem!

People using joining fast-tag lane without fast-tag should be fined!

Instead of placing a fine, toll operators are simply closing the lane.

During long weekends, fast-tag is very helpful.

I have around 1k left in the prepaid balance.

Else, i could have shifted to PayTM ?

Will try to contact the customer care.

I think there should be a way to get the money back.

If that is possible, i will switch to PayTM.

Get the money back but dont stick to ICICI in my opinion.. switch to PayTM once you get the money..

You can now recharge your ICICI Bank FASTag Account from any UPI based payment app.

Please go to the payment app’s UPI module and send money to Virtual Payment Address (VPA) option.

Format of VPA: netc. @icici (Vehicle number)

For tag loading:

Example:-

Netc.mh01ab1234@icici (10-digit vehicle number)
Netc.0TN99R9999@icici (9-digit vehicle number)
Netc.00KA666666@icici (8-digit vehicle number)
Netc.000mmh01xx@icici (7-digit vehicle number)

Yes, it will save lot of time and overall average.
It is time to have at-least two lanes for fast-tag and encourage more commuters.
I think I have saved 30 mins 2-way in my drive time. On top of it, the feeling you get when it's automatically turned to green signal and opens the gate is amazing..atleast for first timers...

+ the monetary benefits 5% cash back on the tolls paid & fuel saved by not standing in queue.

I hope Fastag becomes mandatory for all vehicles & we get all automated toll plazas every where, commuters will save time & money, operator will save money because of reduced manpower requirement & as everything is digitized Government authorities will consume less time for auditing & less chances of corruption.

One of the hassle with icici fastag is that you have to maintain a separate account. There is an easy way to reload your fastag on the go using upi:
netc.yourvehiclenumber@icici

Example : netc.ts07xx1234@icici

You just need to ensure that your vehicle number is updated or linked with that fastag.

“If you still do not have a FASTag for your car, then from today, i.e. January 15, you will have to pay double the fees at toll plazas across national highways (NHs) in India.”

Anyone travelled without Fastag recently?
I’m driving a car without Fastag(it is new one, on T/R)
Do we need to pay double charges?
I can see more than 50% of cars are without Fastag.

This is the biggest joke of the year

“Ahead of the mandatory implementation of FASTags on January 15, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has clarified that passengers would be allowed to travel toll-free in case the FASTag is not properly read at toll plazas.”
