I opted via Hyderabad as i come to know that via nagpur road is not so good.

Please also advise the route in between Solapur to Hyderabad.

Numbers of routes exist and i come to know Hyderabad --> Kalaburgai --> Solapur : Is current favorite. please guide for selecting route.

Would suggest you to split your plan to 3 days

Day 1
Mumbai - Hyderabad : 700 kilometers

Route:

Mumbai --> Pune --> Solapur --> Akkalkot --> Aland --> Kalaburgai --> Humnabad --> Zaheerabad --> Hyderabad (uppal)

Mumbai to Solapur : Excellent 4-lane toll road
Solapur to Kalaburgai : Single lane road, road condition is good
Kalaburgai to Humnabad : single lane. average road
Humnabad to Hyderabad : Newly laid 4-lane road

Once you reach Hyderabad outskirts take the Hyderabad ORR and exit at a desired location do not enter into the city limits.
Plan your stay around ORR.

If it is day time stick to speed limits,  strictly stay below 100 km/hr, else prepare to pay 1400/-

Best hotels between Pune to Hyderabad sections. Neat washrooms.

Shree veg, located between Solapur and Pune
Shree veg :
https://goo.gl/maps/nwu3ozbLr732

Kalaburgai/Gulbarga
Hotel lumbinis grand : https://goo.gl/maps/S5qRYTksD892

Day 2

Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam

Roads are good can be easily done in a single day.

Start time : 4 AM

Distance : 670 kilometers

Drive time : 12 hours

Road condition : 4-lane toll road
Toll price : 660/-

Food options:
Breakfast stop : Hotel 7, Suryapet
Lunch stop : Ram and Shyam, Ravulapalem

Route:
Hyderabad > Suryapet > Vijayawada > Rajahmundry > Visakhapatnam

Day 3

Visakhapatnam to Kolkata

Roads are good, we need to cover more ground.
Plan is to start as early as possible, have very minimal breaks en-route.

Start time : 4 AM

Distance : ~900 kilometers

Drive time : 16 hours

Road condition : 4-lane toll road
Toll price : 985/-

Food options:
Breakfast stop : Srikakulam
Lunch stop : Bhuvaneshwar

Route:
Visakhapatnam > Srikakulam > Bhubneswar > Kharagpur > Kolkata

If you have any further questions do let me know.

Thank you very much for your reply. In this i have few quarry. request you to please go through the same and provide your valuable advise.

1. What about the route Mumbai- Nagpur- Sambalpur- Kolkata ?

i heard that the road in between Nagpur and sambalpur is not good enough. Not only that Sambalpur to Kolkata route road condition is also not so good. Seek your advise in this.

2. I heard that the stretch between Solapur and Kalaburgai has some bad patches. (around Akalkot). is the work for the same is completed now. My travelling time will be around 1st week of May 2018.

3. Last day travelling 900 km will be compensated if i travel something more on 2nd day. hope the road condition will be good. then instead of staying at Visakhapatnamm what you suggust if i move some more km.

waiting for your valuable reply please

Im not sure about the latest road condition.
But I would prefer Mumbai -> Hyderabad -> Kolkata route.
-Better roads

-No safety issues

-Plenty of food options

-Most of the stretch is 4-lane

-Safety during night driving

It is just 1 kilometer bad patch no need to worry about.
Cars like Honda city(fully loaded) crossed it without any issue.

It is just a bad road near a small village.

I suggested to stay in Vishakapatnam because you have you good stay options.
Once you cross it, very minimal options available.

Are you travelling with family?

Now the roads are improved, it is better to stick with
Mumbai --> Pune --> Solapur--> Humnabad --> Zaheerabad --> Hyderabad (uppal)

No need to take Kalaburgai route.

Hyderabad and Vizag,

Since you are looking for a stop over in Hyderabad before you continue to Vizag, I would suggest you the hotels which are close to the outer ring road, budget friendly and extremely comfortable.

You can check out: Ella Hotels, OTM Mint Hotel, Jubilee Ridge, Deccan Serai, Lemon Tree, Red Fox, Minerva Grand and Daspalla Hotels.

For Vizag : Hotel Winsar Park, Best Western Ramachandra, Green Park are a few other options I would suggest.

Roads are clear.
No need to worry about cyclone effect as long as you stick on to the NH(National Highway)

Hyderabad - Vizag,
Can be done during night, it is 4-lane with very few potholes.
But split your journey to 3 days!

Hyderabad to Vijayawada is excellent.
Once you cross Vijayawada, you come across village traffic and uneven roads.

Hi All,

I am planning to travel to Kolkata on 10th Jan from Hyderabad . I have done Hyderabad to Vizag in 2018 and enjoyed the drive. I am skeptical from Vizag to Kolkata road.

Few Questions

1. Can it be covered in 1 day ?(Considering I have a manual car) & road conditions etc.

2 . People suggesting to avoid AP/OR border and OR/WB border in the evening

3 Places to stop for breakfast & lunch in day -2

4. Would like to stop for 30 mins near Chilka Lake

5. Traveling with Family (Head count - 3 members)

6. I got an Eco Sport Diesel(Trend) - 3 Yrs Old ) drove almost 70K. what are the precautions before I hit the road(Car standpoint )

7 Return I would like to touch down in Puri/Konark for a day or 2. (What should be the idle time to start from Kolkata)

Hi guys,

We are a retired couple who love driving and we have driven across India many many times. We have been crisscrossing our country every since the time we owned a Maruti 800- when the highways were  pot hole infested and only trucks plied on them.

We have just driven from Pune to Kolkata in our 7 year old CIVIC automatic and we had no deadlines to reach any particular place at any particular time. Given here are the details of this journey if it helps anyone.

1st LEG: 7th Jan@ 0615 hrs. Pune Home to Vijayawada Hotel.  845 km in 14 hours with an average speed including breaks 60km/hr. Stayed 1 night at Vijayawada.

2nd LEG: Vijayawada Hotel to Vishakapatnam Hotel. 365 km in 8 hours with an average speed including breaks 45km/hr. Stayed 2 nights by the sea.

3rd LEG: Vishakapatnam Hotel to Balasore Hotel. 635 km in 13 hours with an average speed including breaks 49km/hr. stayed 1 night

4th LEG: Balasore to Kolkata home. 255 km in 5 hours with an average speed including breaks 51km/hr.  Reached @ 1400 hours.

Pune to Vijayawada average 60km per hour including breaks.

The entire stretch has a good feel to it since the road conditions are decent. On the entire stretch you can zip around 100 km most of the time but going above that would not be advisable.

Road conditions from Pune to Sholapur is good.

Sholapur to Hyderabad is adequate.

Hyderabad to Vijayawada is good.

If you are entering Vijayawada during peak hours (like we did) you have to reconcile yourself to the fact that you are in a city rush hour traffic and time taken will be decided not by you but by others so be prepared. There are many hotels in Vijayawada and bookings can be done on portals dedicated to such things. However keep in mind that you need to double check to ensure that parking is available at the hotel

Vijayawada to Vizaq (45km/hr) and Vizaq to Balasore 49km/hr) and Balasore to Kolkata 51km/hr).

Our initial plan was to reach Bhubaneshwar but we decided to take a 2 night break in Vzaq and then we did a night halt at Balasore before we reached Kolkata. It is good that we broke the journey to enjoy the ride because this entire stretch from Vijayawada to the border of West Bengal, is being upgraded. This is apparent from the slow average speeds on these stretches. The old 4 lane highway is being upgraded to 6 lanes and there is a lot of constructions. Apart from deep excavations. bridge constructions and construction on the sides, there is a lot of traffic of all kinds, especially near small towns where you have autos, 2 wheeler that really slow you down.

Also for the entire stretch be warned that delays happen at toll gates and FASTAG helps you get along faster. However, having said that, it is still early days of FASTAG and information on dedicated fastag lanes are not adequately informed well before you reach a toll gate. This results in a little confusion and add to the delay. Sometimes if you are not careful you can end up in the cash cum fastag lane and get really bogged down.

On my return I am thinking of taking the KOLKATA-CUTTAK-SAMBALPUR-NAGPUR-JALNA-AURANGABAD-PUNE.

Any idea if that this would be better than the route we came in??

Hi There, What would be the best option to reach Kolkata from Mumbai? Via Nagpur or Hyderabad? As I will be traveling alone safety is one of my priority followed by better roads.

Please guide.

Would appreciate any special tips or notes that can make my journey hassle-free.

Thanks.

Hyderabad to Hamsaladeevi Beach - A hidden Paradise

After a long wait for the December trip, we kick started our vacation to the most beautiful Hamsaladeevi beach located in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

Usually many of them skip this place due to lack of accommodation, but you will find a decent stay in Vijayawada which is around 80 kms approximately from Hamsaladeevi. It is definitely worth travelling so far to see the beauty of this Sagara Sangamam, where river Krishna meets the Bay of Bengal.

We started at an early hour from Hyderabad and reached Vijayawada by 10 AM and checked into the OYO hotel. There are no food joints available at Hamsaladeevi beach so we packed the lunch from the hotel and headed out. Vijayawada to Hamsaladeevi drive took us 3 hours with some breaks.

Hamsaladeevi village is 24 kms away from Avanigadda and we reached Hamsaladeevi by 3 PM. After a long drive from Hyderabad, there was an adrenaline rush gushing out to see this most beautiful place and couldn't wait to snap the sandy beach and the 'river-beach' meeting point. This point is 2 km away from the beach (From Hamsaladeevi village, beach is 4 kms) and we drove our car on the beach side shore to the port to see the confluence.

      Distance : 376 km
