Hi @kailash310@gmail.com, Welcome to the club.

Hyderabad - Mahbubnagar - Raichur - Lingsugur - Badami - Hubbali - Gokarna

Day - 1: Hyderabad to Badami (10 to 11 hours inclusive of break time)

Reach by ~ 3 pm & Local tour

Suggested stay - Heritage resort, Badami.

Day - 2:  Badami Local tour

The above route would be perfect for your road trip. I would suggest you to cover Pattadakal and Aihole on your way to Badami. Please refer to the link below to plan your Badami trip. The weather is considerably hot and would take you a day to cover all the places in Badami.

Day - 3: Badami to Gokarna (~6 hours inclusive of break time)

Please refer to the link below for more information on Gokarna and places to visit in Gokarna. It is more of a place to relax by the beach side and be aware before you head to Gokarna about the fact that it is going to be crowded in December.

Advance booking of your stay at Gokarna is a must and also, reaching the place before sunset would be suggested not to see yourself in chaos .

Suggested stay: Kudle beach view resort.

Hope you have great trip ahead. Drive safe

Few tips from my side:

Hyderabad to Badami route:

Regular route , It is has multiple route option take the following route:
Hyderabad > Mahbubnagar > Raichur > Lingsugur > Hungundabad > Amingad > Adagal > Badami

I would suggest following plan, Start early in the morning

  • Hyderabad > Mahbubnagar > Raichur > Lingsugur > Hungundabad > Amingad > Aihole (stop over)
  • Explore Aihole
  • Aihole > Siddnakolla > Pattadakal
  • Explore Pattadakal
  • Pattadakal > Nandikeshwar > Adagal > Badami
  • Stay at Badami  (Heritage resort Badami, best resort)

On which dates you are planning to start?
You need to book the accommodation in advance at Badami and Gokarna

Thank you for the valuable information Sagar and Ranger

Hope the suggested ruote via Lingasour and Mudgal is good.

I've booked the only hotel available some Karnataka Mayura chakukya Badami.
Hope that will be ok to hang on. Rest all hotels are full.

Are there any good trecking trails in Gokarna and safe for family and kids?
Mostly looking for easier trecking trails as I'm planning to go with kids.

I am planning to start on Dec 24th and return by Dec 29

Did you book the accommodation in Gokarna?

Hotel are super expensive during December month end!

It is overcrowded in December.

Regarding trekking, I am not sure about it.
I heard there are some paid treks, try to contact them.

My suggestion is to avoid Gokarna in December.

If you have accommodation, then it is fine, else with family and kids avoid this place.

It is peaceful place in November and January. December is full of crowd.

If you are kind of person who enjoys crowd, then it is good to go!

been to Badami, Gokarna and Udupi.

@Badami - The temples and the architecture are marvelous. All the places are little crowded but its ok.

Aihole and Pattadakal are UNESCO heritage sites and very ancient temple sites. One who likes ancient, history and architecture, these are the places must visit.

Stayed in Hotel Mayura Chalukya, Badami. Went with zero expectations. Fortunately the place is cleaner and neat. Away form busy traffic. Have decent Vegetarian food option.

@Goakrna - Gokarna beach is little crowded. But other beaches are very clean and not much crowd. Did a 13KM to and from treck and went till Paradise beach. Many people mostly came in groups includes some foreigners. From Kudale beach the trek is moderate difficulty. But one need to be very careful as one side is a cliff and other side is sea and very deep.

Kudale, OM, half moon and Paradise beaches are pristine. Offer you spectacular views, clean water, away from pollution. Apart from trekking you can do some sports activities.

Been to Mahabaleswar temple in Gokarna. Heard that its the temple to be visited after Kashi and Rameswaram. Its considered as holy as the Shiva temple at Varanasi

@Murdeswar, @Udupi - Speactular beaches and temples

Murdeshwar temple, Malpe beach and saint marry island, Kaupu beach, Marwanthe beach all offer you spectacular views and very clean.

Nothing much to tell about Srikrishna temple in udupi. Its the temple one must visit in their life time. Its very old ancient temple and you really feel divine presence.

Overall the places offer you the divine experience and close to nature.

Forgot to mention visiited Almatty dam as all my family members want to see the dam as its in the news for long time.

Hyderabad to Badami road condition :

The drive from Hyderabad to Badami took 8 hrs. Met countless speed breakers.

Badami to Gokarna road condition:

The drive from Badami to Gokarna is better and took 4.5 hrs. Roads are good. Had a breakfast in Hubbali and lunch in Ankola - Kamat Upchar.

Gokarna to Udupi road condtion:

Drive from Gokarna to Udupi is very nice. But Road in some streches good and some stretch they are laying new road. Hence its slower. But we may too many stops inbetween and visited 4 places before reaching udupi. Had a lunch in Kundapura.

Udupi to Hyderabad road condition:

From Udupi to Hyderabad took 14.5 hrs via Agumbe ghat.  Started at 7.30 AM. Some stretch road is good and some stretch its very bad. It took 7.5hrs to reach bellary. Had a lunch there.

From there traveled via Aluru and Kodumuru and touched NH 44 at Kurnool and reached Hyderabad at 10 PM.

Karnataka state highways has never ending potholes.
But no other state promotes tourism the way Karnataka people do.

Badami to Gokarna in 4.5 hours is super quick.

How much does the accommodation in Gokarna cost?

During our last visit in December, asking price is pretty steep, we decided to drive down to Goa instead of staying in Gokarna.

I have spent 2k per night and booked in advance.

I inquired in half-moon, Om and Kudale beaches. The accommodation is ranging from Rs 500 to 2500 to 5k. You have to walk down and inquire all the hotels in these beaches.

Some rooms are available when I visited for T /lunch break. These are small rooms for 1 to 2 people.

Half moon beach, 95359 94105 - Nagesh. Ok. Type. I see many people both family and bachelors stayed there.

Little paradise Inn in Kedle beach quoted 2500/- per 2 people per night. It looks decent.

This place has great food and ambience during new years eve. Been here 4 years ago. Nothing luxurious but pretty comfortable for any bag-packer.
