Hello fellow enthusiasts,

From last couple of month I have been planning a road trip from Hyderabad to Goa. Though I been to Goa last December for the new year celebration, but somehow google maps messed up the whole  trip and at some point of time I was driving on badly paved 8 feet wide road in some jungle which google considered the fastest(Google should also have an option to select 'Safe Roads'). Another issue I faced was the love of Karnataka for Speed breakers. So this time I am very much aware to be on the best route possible to avoid any such incidents. Some research online and on other forums yields the below routes.

Hyderabad - Goa

Route 1

Gachibowli -> Zaheerabad -> Humnabad -> Gulbarg -> Vijaypura -> Bagalkot -> Belgavi -> Baga

Route 2

Gachibowli -> Deosugur -> Raichur -> Bagalkot -> Belgavi -> Baga

Route 3

Gachibowli -> Pargi -> Mudhol -> Shahabad -> Jevargi -> Sindagi -> Bagalkot -> Belgavi -> Baga

Which is the best route in terms of road condition at present? I hope to have better knowledge before I leave for Goa this time.

Also I want to know any Route via Maharashtra is suitable? If If after Vijayapura I can drive into Maharashtra and then to Goa.

Route 4

Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Lingsugur --> Mudgal --> Hungund  --> Bagalkot --> Belgavi --> Kanakumbi --> Bicholim --> Baga (Goa)

Please Suggest. Thanks in advance.

Hyderbad to Goa route is always a mess.

Each year a new route shows up on the Google maps.

If you miss the single turn you will end in Village roads.

We are following this route from the past few years.

It never disappointed us.

Hyderabad to Goa Best Route (2017) : Noth Goa

Hyderabad --> Raichur -->Sindhanur-->  Gangavathi --> Hubli --> Dharward --> Belgavai --> Chorla --> Mapusa --> Goa

Hyderabad to Goa Best Route (2017) : South Goa

Hyderabad --> Raichur -->Sindhanur  --> Gangavathi --> Hubbali --> Dharward --> Mollem --> South goa

Hyderbad to Goa has multiple route options.
Once we ended up on a mud road for 50 kilometers.
We missed few turns and the route was horrible.
Don't trust Google maps.

Mark each and every town en-route and use Google maps.
This way you won't miss the route.

Gangavati is the safest option.
I have driven to hampi on that route.
Road condition is good.

Hi Guys, thanks for the quick replies,

The plan is slightly changed, now we are planning to have a break journey instead of a direct one. So the plan is to take a halt in Vijayapura (Bijapur) and visit Gol Gumbaz then to Goa on next day. So if going via Vijayapura, can take a route from Maharashtra which google showed as the  fastest one? Or should follow the typical route via Bagalkot and Belgavi?

Thanks in advance

You can take
Gachibowli --> Sedam --> Parigi --> Kalaburgai --> Vijayapura

Road condition from Gachibowli to Ravulaplly is single lane(average).

From Ravulapally to Kalaburgai it is single lane road but has a toll. Roas are maintained well on this section.
Kalaburgai has better stay options.

Note : Avoid going via Vikarabad, you need to take right turn at Manneguda.
Some times Google maps suggests route via Vikarabad.

My personal advice. Go to Goa by flight. You will incur the same amount by flight or drive. Hyderabad to Goa road is not an exciting road to drive, its the other way, completely messed up and more streesful.   Using airway, you will not waste much time nor end up being stressed. Being hardcore driving enthusiast, I am recommending the Air option

@Ranger this thread should be in Route queries na! And there is already active thread for Goa route. Should be merged ?

Even though it is hectic, diving to Goa with friends/family is always fun.
Road trip + Goa always sound exciting.

Guys this is best route from Hyderabad to Goa.
I have completed my Hyderabad to Goa drive yesterday.
Roads are very good.
I used to take Gangavathi road which was good for last few years, this lingsugur route is much better.

Will take the above suggested route.
I heard they are collecting huge toll at the ghat section, Is it true?

Hello,

Recently (last week) I was on the road trip to Goa from Hyderabad and as I was upset with the last route I took, which is ironically the most popular route in this post. The route via Raichur is being preferred by most of the fellow enthusiast but I took the route : Goa via Vijayapura and Belgavi. I have my own reason to like that route I took, first I got more than 150Km of perfect laid tarmac and beautiful 4 lane roads. As the highways are not so good in Karnatka, but the change can be seen in the route to Vijayapura. The route is not perfect but much better then the Route via Raichur that I took last year. Road work can be seen in most of the stretch between Vijayapura and Bagalkot and road between Bagalkot and Belgavi is really good to drive on if not perfect. But again, WHY KARNATAKA LOVE GIANT SPEED BUMPS??

A year back it was bad, that is the reason most preferred route used to be via Gangavati .
I guess you must have confused between Lingusur and Gangavathi.

Currently this is best route.

I want to drive to Vasco Da Gama from Hyderabad (Gachibowli)

Guys, regarding this route, when I put this in google maps, it shows 15 hrs 3 min and distance of 703 km whereas directly google maps shows 674 km in 13 hr 21 min.

Possible that google maps is not correct, or the prediction is not right because of the roads? I have experienced that google maps time is usually correct. Some people are mentioning 12 hrs whereas google maps is showing 15 hrs. Need inputs.

Google maps take many parameters into consideration.

1. Starting time

2. Starting place
3. Ending place

4. Driving speed (Once you start the trip)

You are contradicting between North and South Goa.

South Goa

12 hours drive time is from Shamshabad airport to Baga beach (south Goa) is via following route.

Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Lingsugur --> Mudgal --> Hungund  --> Bagalkot --> Belgavi --> Kanakumbi --> Bicholim --> Baga (Goa)

For North Goa there is no need to take Bagalkot route, you can take the following route.
Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Sindhanur --> Hubbali --> Mollem --> Vasco de Gama

PS : While using maps please don't select village names, you will miss the bypass routes.
Set maps from Gachibowli to Vasco de Gama and make sure you pass near to those towns/villages.

Completed with the Goa Trip. I took the route Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Lingsugur --> Mudgal --> Hungund  --> Bagalkot --> Belgavi --> Kanakumbi --> Goa

Started from Hyderabad JNTU @ 2.00 am and reached Goa "Grand Hyatt" by 5.00 pm. Took short breaks in between ( in total 1 hr break). Most part the roads are average to good (single lane) except some places like mehabood nagar 5 - 10 km (bad), Manvi village (Bad). There are speed breakers on all the villages and once you enter the village the roads are bad.

Yeah..  Highways in Karnataka have more number of speed breakers before and after every village enroute. It almost kills all of your average speed while you drive.

Hi Sunil, You can opt for the route below as you enter the state from the South of Goa.

Hyderabad - Mahbubnagar - Raichur - Sindhanur - Hubbali - Ramanguli - Karwar - Palolem (South Goa)

Good time and safe drive :)

Hi All... I'm planning to travel from Hyderabad to South Goa - Agonda Beach: I have been trying to find a smooth and clean tarmac. I'm fine if the road is a little longer, however would request a smooth route... I plan to complete the trip without any stop overs (except - food, snacks etc...)

Please let me know the best route

^^This is the safest route.

But since Hyderabad to Humnabad section is completed, now the fastest route is
Hyderabad --> Gachibowli -> Zaheerabad -> Humnabad -> Gulbarg -> Vijaypura -> Bagalkot -> Belgavi -> Baga

Below is the most preferred route till last month. Personally, I would stick to the below route since the road work is completed.

Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Lingsugur --> Mudgal --> Hungund --> Bagalkot --> Belgavi --> Kanakumbi --> Bicholim --> Baga (Goa)

All the roads from Hyderabad to Goa are filled with speed bumps.
If you enter Karnataka it is common in rural areas.

Do you have any better route suggestion?

when I went to Almatty Dam (near Bhagalkot) in the Dec end last year, some Cab driver said the rout from Hyderabad to Bhagalkot via Gulbarga is better. But I'ven't tried myself yet. I can say that rout from Almatty Dam to Bhagalkot is very good. But its 2 way road not 4 lane.

YEs, That is another option too but measures a bit more in distance and time consuming being a 2 lane road.

It would take about 12 to 13 hours approximately including a breakfast and a lunch breaks in between. Also, it is recommended to start early around 4 or 5 AM in the morning.

Yeah, drive time is around 12 hours.

You need to drive non stop to cover Hyderabad to Goa  12 hours.
Add up breaks to that, It should be around 13~14 hours.

That is the perfect time to start.
Since the roads are almost single lane, you can cover more distance during early hours.
Less traffic around towns and villages.

Hyderabad to Goa route is one of the most challenging road to drive.
Most of it is state highway.
Numerous turns, speed bumps, villages, towns..list is endless.

A simple mistake, can land us on worst roads.

It is always a mess, best route changes every quarter of the year.

No matter which road you select, Hyderabad to Goa is always stressful.

Only thigh I can suggest is to start as early as possible(4 AM), so that you can reach Hyderabad before 7 PM.

Which route you are planning to take?

Yeah @KSP, You can take the following route..

Goa - Belgavi - Bagalkot - Lingsugur - Raichur - Hyderabad.

It is stressful but you can ease out on that if you make an early start around 4 AM. Also, be prepared to encounter the numerable speed breakers in Karnataka all across.. Drive safe and a happy journey.

Hi all,

Here is the brief about our Journey from HYDERABAD (jntu) to GOA (Baga beach).

Before starting to GOA  - my Chotu (Nissan Micra) has been ready with shower and filled with Fuel & nitrogen.

We started at 15th Midnight (12:10am)

It took us  25 minutes to reach the ORR (exit no 19)

We started driving on ORR up to EXIT 16 (which is Bangalore highway)

Took the ORR exit 16 and entered into the Bangalore highway (NH44)  (which is 4 line highway )

We came accross one Toll (which costed ua 60 bucks for 4 wheeler at raikal) up to 102 KM's it's 4 way lane highway.
We had a small tea break over there and took a right turn at kandoor (which is 2 lane) - road is average (small patches).
We continued our journey for nearly 7 or 8 km's and we took a left turn which is - NH 167 (Raichur - Mahaboobnagar road)

We drove up to 85 Km's (5 km's road winding is work on this section), after this  strech we took a right turn which heads to Lingusgur.
We drove around 150 kilometers and We took a left turn to enter into NH 150A, after 60 km's we entered into NH 150 (which is Hungund).

On this section there is a railway gate and some windmills (so nice to see them in action)
Finally by early morning, we reached Bagalkot had a breakfast.

From Bagalkot we started our journey towards belgum (belgavi ).
In Belgum, we were struck in the traffic (took  us1 hour to out from the belgum area) -

Then we entered the most awaited Ghat section.
Ghat road in forest is nearly 67 km's you can test your Driving skills here.
Roads are too good in ghat section, some of the best roads in the country.

You can find some pics here below, after the Ghat road.
We enter into the Goa, it took us some time and finally we reached Baga beach.

so finally this is the best route:

 Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Lingsugur --> Mudgal --> Hungund  --> Bagalkot --> Belgavi --> Kanakumbi --> Bicholim --> Baga (Goa)

I can assure you this is the best route to GOA - you won't get any tiredness - that's for sure :)

if you have any doubts - you can ask us here - thanks for the one who make this platform to discussions.

Cheers,

Krantee

 Hi buddy, thanks a lot for updating the road condition and the best route to be taken to Goa from Hyderabad. It would be great if you can tell us the time taken for this route and decent food stop options available for a family to take a break during the drive as decent washrooms would be prior to food during our journey.

it's depend up on the driving skills, approximately it will take 12 hours for non -stop journey, best food stops means all are smaller kind of villages, in this bagalkot or belgum you will have good dhaba's and all, in Telangana (mahaboobnagar some restaurants are there)

I would recommend you to do this route you are doing this drive during the day time..

Yes you can take the above route but you don't have to touch Satwandi... You can drive down directly to the North Goa.

Arambol, Ashwem and Mandrem are a few places which seemed best to me during my recent trip last week. These places are not much populated as the others like Anjuna, Baga and Calangute. :)

Hi Sagar,

I checked in the Google, that road directly  from Amboli to North Goa is a white line (Not a major Highway) not a yellow highway. Hence I am skeptical about taking that. If you are sure of the road condition.. I can even take that.

May I know where in north goa is your destination? I can suggest accordingly :)

All roads in Goa are good. Only thing is that, they are quite narrow single lane roads.. But still, quite easy to access and free from traffic jams :) So, I don't think it should be a problem.

Hi Sagar,

Is the direct road between Amboli & north Goa  is a major road (highway). In google maps it is represented with a white line unlike a highway which will be in yellow line. Is that road safe & good?

I have suggested you the road between Satuli to Banda because, it is more scenic and day time there would be no question of scare :D The other route via Satwandi has a few jams in between which will delay your travel by 30 mins approximately and it is the usual main road.

 So, I don't think it should be a problem.

Orels, if in case, it gets dark by the time you reach Satuli, you can take the route via Satwandi.. If it's still day time around 4 PM at Satuli, definitely take the scenic route till Banda.

I would recommend you to go with the route via Vijaypura and Amboli if in case you start off around 4 or 5 AM in the morning.. Els, choose the route via Bagalkot... Both the routes are almost the same but the route via Bagalkot gets crowded during the evening times which might eat up at least 30 mins of your travel time easily.

Most probably, I will be starting in the evening & will be taking a break at Kalaburagi & then will be prceeding next day morning 5 or 6AM

Hi, going to be doing Hyderabad to South Goa and from all the previous posts this looks like the best route suggested

Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Lingsugur --> Mudgal --> Hungund  --> Bagalkot --> ( Lokapur; Nesargi; M K Hubli) Mollem --> Varca

Does anybody have any suggestions for a better route or an update on road conditions. Google Maps is suggesting the via NH 65 route which I remember last driving back from Mumbai was a terrible segment. Any inputs appreciated. Thanks

Hey @Leo,

Status of both the routes are equally the same if you are looking at comparing between the available two options.. Both of them have the best roads and also the bad stretches.

I usually take the below route every year

Hyderabad --> Jadcherla --> Raichur --> Lingsugur --> Mudgal --> Hungund  --> Bagalkot --> Belgavi --> Kanakumbi --> Bicholim --> Baga

But I've been to Goa during the 2nd week of September and I have tried this route :   Hyderabad --> Humnabad --> Bagalkot --> Belgavi --> Kanakumbi --> Bicholim --> Mandrem

I would recommend you to do this route if you are doing this drive during the day time.. If you start late you will eat up most of the time from Bagalkot.

If you are starting at 4 or 5 AM.. you will have an advantage if you take this route and will reach Goa by 6 or 7 PM.

Hi Sagar

Can we go in a gear-less bike from Hyderabad to Goa
route is Hyderabad - Mahbooobnager - Raichur - Belgaum - Goa

We are planning to start at 2pm in the afternoon and without night halt anywhere!

Also any tips would be helpful.

Heard Raichur  road is under construction.

It is better to take Kalaburgai route.

Hi Kannaiah,

You can do this quite well on your gearless vehicle but you have to be very watchful about the highway traffic and your very long travel time :)

If it's possible I would recommend you to start off early in the morning and as suggested by @Ranger I would recommend you to take the route via Kalaburagi instead of the route via Kalaburagi.

Be very cautious while you ride in the ghats region as it is going to be very dark. And I be a little dicey in saying this that it's definitely not safe during the night as you might have to pass through isolated regions in the dark :)

Do let us know after you are done with your trip. Waiting for an inspiring story from your end :D

Hi Devraj, You don't have touch Vijayapura.. You can drive down directly towards Bagalkot via Kalaburagi.. That's the best options you've got :)

Latest update :(from last weekend)

Hyderabad - Zaheerabad - Humnabad - Kalaburgai - Bagalkot - Belgaum - Dodamarg - Baga

Except for few bad stretches after Kalaburgai.

The road is pretty decent!

Chorla Ghat : Bad

Amboli Ghat : Bad

Stick to Dodamarg route.

Hi Amit, 4 AM is the best time for you to start to Goa.

Gachibowli -> Zaheerabad -> Humnabad -> Kalaburgai -> Vijaypura -> Bagalkot -> Belgavi -> Baga

The above is the best recommended route for you as per the available road conditions. All the roads to Goa are actually messed up but this is a lot best compared to the rest of the options.

You should be reaching your destination by 6 or 7 PM considering both breakfast and lunch breaks in between.

Drive safe and Happy journey. Do update us back on your experience about the road conditions after you get done with your trip...
