Anyone recently covered Hyderabad to Pune by road? I am planning to drive from Hyderabad to Pune. Heard that Solapur to Pune road is excellent now. Want to know the road condition between Hyderabad to Solapur. I heard that there is an alternative route via Vikarabad till Solapur. Looks risky but any update on this route is helpful as I can avoid traffic.

Parigi to Sedam : above average (mix 2-lane toll road)

Sedam to Kalaburgai : Excellent (2-lane road)

Kalaburgai to Akkalkot : average (few bad stretches near to Akkalkot)

Akkalkot to Solapur : average ( some bad stretches) Overall it is far better than the route via Zaheerabad.

Hi Karthik, Avoid route via Vikarabad it is not worth it. Only feasible option is is NH7 via Solapur. If you start early you can avoid village traffic.Try to avoid nigh drive as there are many unexpected potholes. Truck traffic is always high on this route. But once you cross Solapur road is excellent till Pune. Solapur to Pune can be easily done in 4 Hours. Hyderabad to Solapur has some diversions as work is under progress.

Recently done this route. There are no diversions on the highway. But road condition is not that great. It took me 10 hours to reach which includes breaks.Early morning start is a safe bet.

Hi Karthik , Recently done this road in night we have taken Hyderabad -- > Zaheerabad -- >Omerga --> NalDurga -->Solapur -->Pune There is four lane work in progress with heavy onside traffic till Solapur ,better to avoid night drive on this road till Solpaur . From Solapur to Pune its a Express Highway .

Road widening works are progressing. But no where close to completion. Avoid night journey on these road due to chaos create by multiple factors such as trucks, private bus, unexpected potholes and diversions. Drive safe and be attentive on this route.

The roads and food joints from vapi to solapur is good. The roads are in excellent condition. However the roads from solapur to Hyderabad is under construction with lot of diversions, reached solapur by 1800. Hence continued my journey and reached Hyderabad by 2355 hrs. However it is better to avoid this, if you start from Solapur after 1700 hrs. The companies constructing the roads have done a pretty good job to ensure safe driving, even the lorries are driving in a disciplined manner. The most rashly driven vehicles are the Volvo buses without any idea of traffic sense and it is these vehicles which you should avoid. I have driven in XUV vehicle. I did this journey in the second week of April 2016.

Last week I did Hyderabad to Mumbai.

Hyderabad to Solapur is still in bad shape.

Many diversion due to road constructions. But we don't have any alternate route.

Some tips from my side to make your drive safer and faster.

1.If you are starting from Hyderabad, you have an advantage. Start early before 5AM and cross Solapur before 11AM.

2.Solapur has a check post at the entrance. I see many cars staying in a heavy vehicle(truck) queue , which is not needed. Cars can skip that line.

3.Many diversions on the route, overtake only If you have clear vision.

4.Get ready for many unexpected potholes. Do not follow heavy vehicles closely specially fast volvo buses. They don't slow down.

Last weekend we did a drive to Bidar fort via Zaheerabad.

Looks like there is no improvement in road works between Hyderabad to Solapur.

Get ready to face many diversions and speed bumps.

One positive thing I have noticed is all the diversion are well marked. Did not face any issue during day time.

But It will be defiantly tough to drive in the dark.

It will at least take one more year to complete the work.

Even I noticed them. Diversions are very neatly marked all the way till Solapur.

No issue during the day drive. But in night chances of missing them are high due to high beams.

Hi Murali, thanks for the useful info. I am planning a road trip to Pune on 29th June night hours from BHEL-Hyderabad. Planning to start at around 1:00 Am so that I can reach Pune by 10:00 Am. So that I can do hotel check-in by afternoon. I have no option now but to drive night this time. I would be travelling by Tata Zest Automatic (AMT). We try our best to drive carefully not exceeding the speed limits. Can you please advise some precautions for me based on your experience?

Indeed, others are also requested to advise me. Thanks

Expect some heavy truck and bus traffic.

Keep a close eye on diversions.Even though they are marked well, chances of spotting them are tough during night drive.(High beams )

Many unexpected speed bumps. Near some diversions and villages.(recently laid)

Maintain as much distance as you can from your front vehicle.

Volvo's are most dangerous on this route. Do not tailgate them, even If you do, maintain some safe distance.

Drive safe. :)

Update us back once you are done with the trip.flag

That is a very odd time to start :D (advantage is no village/town traffic)

But as you said you don't have any option.

Roads are manageable nothing alarming. I did Hyderabad (BHEL) to Solapur in 6 hours.:cooler:

We stopped at a decent restaurant as soon as we entered 4 lane road.

Solapur to Pune road is fantastic.

Started from Hyderabad at 4am and reached Pune at 5PM includes several breaks.

Any update on this route?

I know that Hyderabad to Zaheerabad is nightmare for me.

What about Zaheerabad to Pune?

Google has something good to offer

Hyderabad -> Vikarabad -> Parigi -> Kalaburagi -> Solapur -> Pune

This route is 60kms more than Hyderabad -> Zaheerabad -> Pune, but only 20mins slower.

I have done this route 3 months back (Hyderabad to Kalaburagi).

Hyderabad -> Manneguda -> Parigi -> Sedam -> Kalaburagi(Gulbarga)

Hyderabad to Manneguda : Newly laid two lane road.

Manneguda to Parigi : Average 2 lane road.

Parigi to Kalaburgai: excellent 2 lane road (toll). Did some high speed sprints on this road. Roads are arrow straight.

No idea about the recent status of Kalaburagi to Solapur.

uday, I think you have done this route last month?

Can you update the status?

Stick to Hyderabad --> solapur --> Pune

Hyderabad to Solapur is in bad shape.

Starting early in the morning is the key.

Start at 4am.

Plan a breakfast break at Zaheerabad.

Lunch at Solapur.

Once you cross Solapur road is bliss, you will enjoy the ride.

Keep an eye on the Volvo buses ,they don't have any intention to slow down.

Many unexpected potholes and diversions between Hyderabad to Solapur.

You can find plenty of fuel and food points enroute.

Happy journey and ride safe.

will be going for my first bike ride solo from hyderabad to pune need suggestion on best time to leave and route. any extra suggestion is welcome .please note its my first bike ride so, what need to be taken care of

There is plenty of activity on Hyderabad-Pune highway.

Some times you will feel like driving on city roads.:P

As gowtham said starting early is an advantage, Less village traffic.

There is a rail way gate on Hyderabad-Pune Highway, I was shocked, when I first did Hyderabad-Pune in 2009.

Finally authorities woke up.

Road will only get better as the days pass by.

Work is in full progress between Hyderabad-Solapur.

Drive safe and Have fun.

I am a one month new driver and planning a trip from Hyderabad to Pune on my all new TATA TIAGO with my wife and two friends. My research regarding the road ends up with the thought that it would be a risk for new four wheeler riders to drive to Pune. Solapur to Pune the road conditions shows is awesome but what about Hyderabad to Solapur road condition. I am planning the trip on 25th of December early 0500 hours. Can anyone please guide me on the same. I just want a safe ride as it would be my first four wheeler long tour.

Thank you Karthik. is there any thing else that I should keep in mind while starting the tour?

Start off as early as possible (before 5 a.m.), that's the most important step for a safe drive especially when you are driving to this place.. and Zaheerabad highway in the worst state as ever.. the route suggested by gowtham will be your best pick.. may be a below average stretch will be there for around 30 kms before you reach Solapur and from Solapur till you reach Pune, the road is pure bliss..

I have travelled on this stretch in a Fortuner & had bumps all the way in December 2016

I had last traveled in 2012 & I could say its in a pathetic condition

I travelled to Bangalore from Hyderabad & from there to Mumbai (300kms) longer but much more pleasurable to drive

Road condition is still bad.
Many people are going via Gulbarga in order to avoiding zaheerabad route.

They are taking ages to complete the work.
Hope by this year end it will be completed.

please advice about route, road condition and time schedule.

Mumbai to solapur is bliss.

Solapur to Hyderabad is the only bad stretch you will come across.

Regular route:

Solapur --> zaheerabad --> Hyderabad

Better route:

Solapur --> Kalaburgai (Gulbarga) --> Sedam --> Parigi --> Chevella-->Hyderabad

Latest update :04 Feb 17

Started 7 am from Kukatpally and took the following route

Hyderabad --> zaheerabad -->humnabad -->umarga -->solapur-->pune-->dombivili

Road condition has improved from last time trip however the strip between umarga to Solapur is not great and should be avoided for night driving.

Took three stops in total .(20 minutes, 40 minutes and 20 minutes) and reached Dombivilli at 10 pm

Hi Amol, Starting off as early as possible will be the best thing to do inorder to escape most of the truck traffic enroute.. (before 5:00 a.m.)

Hyderabad - Parigi - Sedam - Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) - Solapur - Pune

This is the current best route to reach Pune from Hyderabad.

Hyderabad to Parigi - Road condition is decent.

Parigi to Sedam - Road condition is good.

Sedam to Kalaburagi - Road condition is excellent.

Gulbarga to Solapur - Road condition is average (Few bad stretches around Akkalkot)

Solapur to Pune - Brilliant road condition.

Note: Dont even think about taking the route Via Zaheerabad. It can compete against the India's saddest highways interms of road condition.

Stop by for breakfast at Kalaburagi (Lumbini's grand Hotel)

Lunch at Solapur as there a re many good hotels and dhabas on the highway.

Have a safe drive.. Tc [emoji4]

Take Gulbarga(Kalaburgai) route. Best alternative to Zaheerabad route.

Hi reddy, As per what I know, going via Pune is the only possible and shortest route to reach Hyderabad from Mumbai..

Mumbai --- Lonavla --- Kurkhumb --- Indapur --- Akkalkot --- Kalaburagi --- Hyderabad

The above route is the fastest route as my knowledge which will take you 14 hours of drive time for 750 kms including breaks.

Keep an eye on village crossings, dogs and bikers.

The stretch between Solapur and Kalaburgai has some bad patches. (around Akalkot)

Kalaburgai has many decent hotels with good washrooms.

If you are planning for the lunch stop over.
I would recommend Lumbinis grand hotel near kamat. (before 3 PM). Not sure If the lunch will be served after 3 PM.
Location : https://goo.gl/maps/VMz6T6hjjK62

If you are late, try to have lunch just before Solapur, there are many road side dhabas available before Solapur.

Refill fuel at Solapur, there are very few fuel stations that accept card after Solapur.

There are many roads between Kalaburga to Hyderabad.
Take only the following route.
Kalaburgai --> Sedam --> Parigi --> Chevella -->Hyderabad.

If your are using google maps set the route to Gachibowli Hyderabad, instead of Hyderabad.
Drive safe and Start as early as possible.

Hi Guys

I am planning to drive from Hyderabad -  Solapur - Kolhapur and thanks to this thread, I got to know about the Kalaburgi path.

Can anybody please help me with below points

1. Thinking to start at 4 am. Would it be safe to drive till Pargi before sunrise?

2. By what time can I expect Solapur?

3. how many lanes does the road have till Solapur.

Thanks in Advance

Hi sarfaraz, The route mentioned above is the perfect way to reach your destination with no hiccups in between.

Starting at 4 a.m. is the best time to escape much traffic between villages and small towns you cross.

You can stop for breakfast in Kalaburagi around 8 AM and you will reach Solapur between 11 to 12 and that will be the best stop for your lunch as you find a lot of decent dhabas on the highway.

Kalaburagi to solapur has some bad stretches in between but its easily doable. It's a 2 lane regular state highway.

Solapur toKholapur post lunch will take you around 5 hours of drive time.

You might reach your destination approx. around 6 PM including breaks.

Pune --> Solpaur --> Zaheerabad --> Hyderabad is still bad, completely avoid this road during night journey.
Bad diversions and heavy truck/bus traffic made it worst.  Road got little better, but still not worth it.

Pune --> Solapur --> Kalaburgai (Gulbarga) --> Hyderabad is a better option.

What are major challenges on NH65.

It is under construction, road is getting extended from 2-lane to 4-lane.
It has improved compared to last year, still many diversions.
During night people are getting confused at switchbacks, coupled with heavy bus and truck traffic.

Once 4-lane is completed there is no point in going via Kalaburgai (Gulbarga)

Hi,

I am planning to drive from Kukatpally, Hyderabad to Sholapur on Saturday, 03-June-2017. I intend to start at 04.30 AM that day.

When I check in Google Maps, I see that the Google Maps is showing two routes.

1. NH 65 - which is expected to take around 5 Hours 45 minutes and the distance is 285 km.

2. Via Kalaburagi - which is expected to take around 6 Hours 25 minutes and the distance is 345 km.

Looking into the timing & distance as shown in Google Maps, looks like NH65 should be a better option, in spite of road extension works.

But I see that in this blog there are lot of suggestions to take the road via Kalaburagi. Can some body help with a clarity on why the route via Kalaburagi is being suggested.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Maruthi.

Difference in kilometers and drive time is very less.
Hyderabad --> Zaheerabad --> Solapur : road is improving.
Hyderabad --> Kalaburgai --> Solapur : Is current favorite.

It all depends on what you prefer,

Via Kalaburgai

Drive is peaceful, less truck and bus traffic.

Issues : Single roads, very few food options and village traffic.

Via Zaheerabad

Heavy truck traffic and continuous switch backs.

Issues : Many traffic jams during night, heavy bus traffic early in the morning.

I have used both roads extensively, Personally I prefer Kalaburgai road.
It is more peaceful and stress free compared to Zaheerabad route.

If you are doing two way runs, I would suggest you to try both the roads.

Hi Maruti,

The drive through Gulburga is very peaceful and the road condition is really good, even being single lane road you find very less traffic and can make up good speeds, I have good experience of this road in March this year when I am travelling back from Akkalkot, for now just avoid Zaherabad road, the road condition is pathetic. I have experienced it last month on the way back to Hyderabad from Ahemedabad. I know the Gulbarga road is far better for me but as I was traveling in night  and the occupants were only me and wify, i opted Zaheerabad road :(.

Thank you for the update Sunil.

Gulbarga (Kalaburgai) route is still the best route.
Avoid Zaheerabad route as suggested by Sunil.

Last year there is a 1 kilometer bad stretch near Akkalkot, Is it completed?

I travelled on that route last saturday. Road is good.

From Hyderabad to zaheerabad it is nice.

Once we cross zaheerabad, will face some diversion.

If you are travelling in night time, you need to be careful as they have put some barricades in form of drums.
They are not visible and no reflector stickers so be careful.

I would rate it good.

Solapur to Pune is bliss, 4-lane and smooth.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and views.

I completed my trip.

HYDERABAD---->Pune--->HYDERABAD.

Below are my observations:

1) NH65 is the best route to opt. 100 KM patch in Maharashtra has difficulties which will slow down your Avg Spped. Specially at Umaraga, Naldurg and up to Solapur.

From Solapur to Pune I was thinking why I do not have Cruise Control Car. My max maintained speed was 130KMH. It was like Playing NFS.

Pain full drive was from Hadapsar to Pimpari which took 2 hrs for 40 KMs. I think drivers in Pune city act smart.

2) While returning I opted Kalaburagi Route as suggested above, however I was not comfortable.

I killed 2 Dogs.

Lot of bikers, tractors and street animals on the road, very narrow road.

Villagers are were partying on the road and blocked 50% of Road in one village.

Unable to clock the speed of more than 50KMH.

Lot of people showing hands for Lift.

3) Overall travel time:

Started at 5:00 AM

Hyderabad--- Zaheerabad--Solapur:- 4:30 hrs. (1hr Break) Solapur-----Hadapsar:- 2Hrs. Hadapsar---- Pimpari 2.00Hrs.

Reached at 2:30PM

Started at 5:00 AM

Pimpari---- Solapur:- 3:00 Hrs. (1Hr Break) Solapur-------Hyderabad (Via Kalaburagi) 7Hrs.

Reached at 4:30PM. Overall 100 KMs extra.

4) Lot of Diversions,Agreed with Admin. Only 50% to 70% work is completed, both side traffic is diverted to single lane but it is not impacting your Avg speed.

5) Please avoid Night driving on both Routes. Agreed with Admin.

6) Please do not follow any of Volvo Bus or Trucks. They may create problems.

7) Nisarg Restaurant is better than Kamat. Better test at lesser price. Kamat is only Show off.

Safe Drive and Enjoy your destinations.

Next upcoming trip

a)::- Hyderabad---------->Shirdi---------->Indore------>Ujjain------>Indore------------>Shirdi---------->Hyderabad.(Planing in Dec)

Next upcoming trip

b)::- Hyderabad---------->Nagpur--------->Jabalpur------------->Varanasi------------>Jabalpur----------->Nagpur------------>Hyderabad.

(In Search of Best time)

Thanks a lot for the latest update.

I have few questions for you.

How is the road quality via zaheerabad?
Last time I took this road, It is filled with numerous pot holes, Overall drive was very bad.

My friend got bent rims (aftermarket) on his Honda city.

How often are the diversions?

Which car you are driving?

This is bad. Starting early morning from Hyderabad will have an advantage, no village traffic.

Looks like zaheerabad road is improving, now we have mixed reviews between zaheerabad and Gulbarga.

From Hyderabad to Umarga most of Road is ready, final work is going on and waiting for opening ceremony.

From Umarga to Solapur No constructions and diversions. but it seems they have done some patch work.

Avg Diversions are at 5-7 Kms. but they have prepared proper curve to turn which helps even if you are @ 120KMH.

I was driving VW Polo.

Yes it is completed, the road is in very good condition now. I was actually surprised to see such good roads in MH (Vidarbha) :)

Guest Venkatesh

Just finished a road journey from Hyderabad to Pune in June 2017.

Hyderabad to Zaheerabad- ordinary road

Zaheerabad to Basavakalyan (Karnataka-Maharastra border)- Roads are good with multiple diversions

The moment you enter Maharashtrra (umerga) the roads are really bad . Single lane and reminds me of the old state highways. very very uneven.

This is the status till Solapur

From Solapur till pune is a 4-lane toll highway. Very good

Started at 5 am and reached at 5 pm

Hyderabad - Mumbai in Ford Figo.

Hyderabad to Solapur has two routes.

Via Zaheerabad
Via Gulbarga (Kalaburgai)

From the recent updates we can see both roads are equally good and bad.

Zaheerabad route:
- Heavy traffic, trucks and travel bus.

- Tough to drive in the night, unpredictable diversions as the road is under construction.

+ Many food choices

+ National highway, lot of activity. Safer for families driving in night.

Gulbarga (Kalaburgai)
+ Peaceful to drive, when you are starting early in the morning from Hyderabad.

+ Less truck/bus traffic.

- Village traffic and stray dogs.
- Less food options
- Less activity in the night compared to Zaheerabad route

- Longer by 30 kilometers, though the drive time is same.

It is now 50:50, pick the one that suites your requirement.

Hi,

I left my home in Kukatpally at 04:30 Hrs on Saturday, 03-June-2017. I decided to take the route via Gulbarga (Kalaburgi). I reach Solapur NH 65 at 10:50 Hrs, (from there I went on to Pune). Enroute I had my breakfast at Gulbarga, which is a 20 minute stop. So it took me 6 hours of drive from my home to Solapur. There was hardly any traffic on the road. Except for 1 km in Akkalkot, rest of the road is very smooth and a very stressfree drive

On my return journey on Sunday, 11-Jun-2017, I wanted to see the road Solapur to Hyderabad Via Zaheerabad. I was on NH 65 in Solapur at 11:15 Hrs. I reached my home in Kukatpally at 17:45 Hrs (which includes a 30 minutes of lunch break). So my return journey was also a 6 Hrs of drive from Solapur to Hyderabad.

But the return journey was very pathetic. I had to drive around 300 km. Out of this around 150 km is fully bumpy drive, especially the 120 km from Solapur to BasavaKalyan is pathetic, which took me 2.5 hrs. The roads got better in Karnataka and Telanaga, but needed some frequent switches of lanes and overtaking was difficult at times due to the vehicles coming in the opposite direction.

I really feel that route Hyderabad -> Kalaburgi -> Solapur is the best as of now considering the fact that it has less traffic and driving is stressfree.

Regards,

Maruthi.

Agree to this point, Yesterday I drove till Zaheerabad, road condition is good.
But high traffic, speed bumps and continuous switch backs made the drive very tiring.

One good stretch, near Zaheerabad. Hope it will change to Hyderabad-Bangalore highway.
It will definitely improve the connectivity.

Hi All

I went to Miraj( 50 kms before Kolhapur) via Kalaburgi in June. The road is so majestic with lot of landscapes and awesome roads. very less traffic faced near Kalaburagi , but not a turn off at all. If you are starting at around 4 am, this is the best road to pick. I reached my home town at 2.30 with 1 break near Kalaburagi.

While returning, I took the Zaheerabad route and I still regret it. I started from Solapur around 10. Just after leaving Solapur, the road condition was simply worst. Hell lot of trucks, buses and commercial vehicles made the ride miserable. I intended to count the number of diversions in the way, but the frustration grew so much that I couldn't think of anything.

My sincere suggestion would be to avoid the Zaheerabad route on any condition.

Agree with you. Kalaburgai route is much more peaceful and relaxing to drive, compared to Zaheerabad route.

Diversions and speed bumps will kill the average a lot.

Zaheerabad highway has turned out to be one of the most painstaking highways around Hyderabad and I doubt if it is going to get finished in the next 2 years also as monsoon and rainy seasons interrupt their already slow moving road construction work.

In the meanwhile, Route via Kalaburagi has turned out to be one of the best option over this route. I would not mind about a few bad stretches in between near Akkalkot which is any day better that the huge pot holes, sudden diversions and truck traffic on the Pune highway.
