We took route-A while going from Hyderabad to Pocharam.1-02.jpeg

If you start early in the morning, roads are mostly free.

2-02.jpeg

Road condition is good throughout the journey.

3-01.jpeg

Roads cut through the forests. You find many monkeys/Peacocks en-route.

4-01.jpeg

After travelling around 60 kilometers, we took a short photo break.

5-01.jpeg

6-02.jpeg

Bikes may come and go but, Royal Enfield will stay forever.

7-01.jpeg

After a quick photo session, we headed towards the Pocharam reservoir
8-01.jpeg

Place was deserted and we spent some time clicking some pictures
9-02.jpeg

While we were clicking pictures, An ancient fort grabbed our attention

The water looked very and most importantly zero crowd. Rare in India.

11-01.jpeg

Only bikes are allowed on this bridge, but you need to return back on the same path.

12-01.jpeg

After spending some quality time, we headed towards the old building which looked haunted.

14-02.jpeg

When the reservoir gets full, water overflows on to this bridge.

15-02.jpeg

Got to know that water flow has stopped a week before we went there, unlucky!

16-01.jpeg

We visited the old builds through a muddy road. Had a tough time with the civic, cloud not click proper pictures of this place. After some exploration we resumed our journey towards Pocharam sanctuary.

18-01.jpeg

When the thump becomes your heartbeat, only then you know what it is like to ride a Bullet!

This is forest trail entrance. We were surprised to see no one around.

20-01.jpeg

We enquired around and got to know that we needed to hire a guide and buy tickets in the park, which is opposite to the sanctuary.

21-01.jpeg

We hired a guide and bought the entry tickets which costed us under 300/- including guide and forest trail entry.

22-01.jpeg

Our 4.5 kilometers forest trail begins.

23-01.jpeg

We spotted plenty of deers running around.

24-01.jpeg

Missed my long lens badly, all the pictures were clicked from a moving car

25-01.jpeg

Some of those best trees I have seen till date.

26-01.jpeg

27-01.jpeg

View opened up wide.

28-01.jpeg

You can spot the reservoir from the forest trail.

We went towards the watch tower and spotted some deers and birds which i failed to capture them with my small lens.

30-01.jpeg

View of the reservoir from the watch tower.

31-01.jpeg

Climbing the watch tower is a bit tricky because of the poorly designed ladder.

32-01.jpeg

Our ride parked below the watch tower.

33-01.jpeg

We spent around 20 minutes on the tower and left towards the exit.

34-01.jpeg

36-01.jpeg

We were not allowed to get out of the vehicle. We requested to click some pictures as there were no other vehicles behind us.

37-01.jpeg

38-01.jpeg

39-01.jpeg

It took us around 40 minutes to cover the forest trail

43-01.jpeg

On our return journey, we took Route-B, 4-lane and road it condition is very good.

44-01.jpeg

Personally, i would rate this place above average which is neglected by many travelers.
Good thing about this place?very less visitors and place is almost isolated.

@gowtham great work on the post. I always thought there was nothing exciting apart from the church towards medhak and you have proved me wrong. Your photolog always inspires me towards exploring new places out of nothing. Thanks for sharing and i will soon checkout this sanctuary you have mentioned about :)

Nice report Gowtham.

I'm planning this Sunday with my friends.

How much time did it take for you to cover route A from kompally and route B till kompally?

What time did you start at route A? And what time did you reach? Can we stop our vehicle in the trail for few minutes and take pictures sitting inside? And is there restriction to people sitting inside the car? We are four in my WagonR. How much time can we click photos at the watch tower? Any restrictions? Lastly is route A too risky for a beginner who has no experience in two lane driving? We are planning to start at 7:00AM at kompally and expecting to reach back by 3:00 PM. Take route A while going and route B while coming so that we can cover church.

As I never drove on those kind of roads for hours together, I only drove on highways.

Avoid the route via Narsapur, take route B.

Four is fine, you need to provide a seat for the guide.

2 hours ago, Krish said:

It depends on crowd, we spent around 20 minutes on the tower.
When we went we are the only car in the sanctuary.

Route A is not worth it, Just take Route B.

Both the routes meet at the same point, route B is the best option, even If you are planning to cover the church.

Yeah you can happily stop for pictures. Better to take a zoom lens.

It took me around 3 hours in route B, avoid route A. Including pit stops.

Last Sunday did a breakfast drive to Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary & Medak Church. Since most of the information is covered by @Ranger, just sharing updated information & few snaps here:-

1) Ticket cost of Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary: Rs 120/- (Single Person+Single vehicle). Ticket counter is opposite to the gate

2) Timing of the sanctuary: Though from 9AM to 5PM, it is better to visit around 9.30 AM & cover Medak Church before coming here.

3) Food: If you want to have some food its better to grab at one of those restaurants near the gate of Medak Church. I had Dosa at Chandra Bhavan.

4) Route: Narsapur - Kulcharam - Medak Church - Pocharam is having some bad patches as road widening is under progress.

Now here are some pics from my drive:-

1) The reason I took Narsapur route because it cuts through the jungle/greenery:

I think you had gone during the right time by choosing to reach there pretty early as it opens. The place looks very peaceful when there's no crowd.

I have recently heard of people camping at this site. Have you noticed any of such during your visit ?

Hey @sagar, yeah it was early. In fact the door was closed when I reached there. Luckily they opened it just in a while. in the entire jungle nobody was there, except us, it was so much beautiful to feel the nature like that!?

I dint notice any sign of camping inside the sanctuary, and strictly it should not be allowed as well.

@Ranger Out of Pocharam, Gottam Gutta, Kohir Hills and Ananthagiri which one do you suggest for one day trip (Morning to evening) with friends in the month of April? The last month at college, we are planning some trip to a nearby location. Vehicle is one Innova or else two sedans/hatchbacks.

Why not Singur dam.. I think it would be a nice drive. Any place in April is going to be super hot in weather ... As you said morning to Evening.. I feel Bidar would be a perfect fit :)

Here are a few links of the Singur Dam that I would like to share for your reference..

The greenery might not be as good as what is shown in the picture in this season. Also the water will be dried up I think.

Any place isn't found green around our territory during this season except for post monsoon :D I have suggested you these places as they have some thing to look at and a drive involved in distance up to 100 kms :)

Hyderabad to Hamsaladeevi Beach - A hidden Paradise

After a long wait for the December trip, we kick started our vacation to the most beautiful Hamsaladeevi beach located in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

Usually many of them skip this place due to lack of accommodation, but you will find a decent stay in Vijayawada which is around 80 kms approximately from Hamsaladeevi. It is definitely worth travelling so far to see the beauty of this Sagara Sangamam, where river Krishna meets the Bay of Bengal.

We started at an early hour from Hyderabad and reached Vijayawada by 10 AM and checked into the OYO hotel. There are no food joints available at Hamsaladeevi beach so we packed the lunch from the hotel and headed out. Vijayawada to Hamsaladeevi drive took us 3 hours with some breaks.

Hamsaladeevi village is 24 kms away from Avanigadda and we reached Hamsaladeevi by 3 PM. After a long drive from Hyderabad, there was an adrenaline rush gushing out to see this most beautiful place and couldn't wait to snap the sandy beach and the 'river-beach' meeting point. This point is 2 km away from the beach (From Hamsaladeevi village, beach is 4 kms) and we drove our car on the beach side shore to the port to see the confluence.

      Distance : 376 km
      Ride: Honda City
      Fuel : Petrol
      Mileage : 15 kmpl
Hotel : OYO rooms (2000/- per night)

Note: Don't take any diversions from the mentioned route else you might end up between bad conditioned roads and longer distances as you pass
