Hyderabad to Goa best route 2019 and 2020

Hi All,

I have completed the Hyderabad to Goa track yesterday.

Let me split the roads into different sections to give clear information.

Best route to Goa? It always varies from year to year.

Best route:
Hyderabad > Zaheerabad > Humnabad > Gulbarga >  Vijayapura > Bagalkot > Belgaum > Dodamarg > Goa

0D1E16F2-74FD-4B2A-A480-E8168C78FE70.jpeg

Hyderabad to Humnabad: Excellent 4-lane road

Humnabad to Gulbarga : Smooth 2-lane road, you can take Gulbarga outer ring road to skip the traffic

Gulbarga to Belgaum : Smooth 2-lane road, some of it has a toll
Belgaum to Goa: Roads are not so great blame the recent rains, few patches are pathetic.

Tip:
Humnabad to Belgaum road looks same all the way,

Food:
Zaheerabad

Gulbarga

Belgaum

People using Google maps, split your route into different sections

Section 1:
Hyderabad to Gulbarga, it should be via Zaheerabad

Section 2:
Gulbarge to Belgaum

Section 3:
Belgaum to Goa, make sure you put exact location in Goa (example : Anjuna beach)

Drive time

Total drive time including breaks is 14~15 hours,

Don't get fooled by google times.
Lots of village traffic followed by ghat section, will eat away your time.

Worst route is via Raichur, completely avoid it.

Few clicks from the drive.

Missed your post :(
We stayed in north most part of Goa, above Anjuna.

So which route did you take?

Left on 27th Dec at 0450 and arrived at Aldona, North Goa, at 1745.   Route taken was Hyderabad - Humnabad - Gulbarga - Bijapur - Belgaum - Chorla - Bicholim - Aldona and the reverse on the way back. Except for some bad patches around Gulbarga and Bijapur, road conditions were pretty good.

Thanks a lot for quick reply. We are going to north Goa itself, but lately couple of times they closed Dodamarg route, so I opted for Chorla ghat route then, having that experience now I’m just making sure of same...TIA

Recently i traveled the zaheerabad, humnabad, gulbarga, vijayapura, bangalkot and belgaum route. Road is good. In the return we started at 08.00 AM in calangute and reached Motinagar, Hyderabad at 10.00 PM on the same day. Tired but it is a new experience. This site helped me a lot to travel my first long drive on my own vehicle.

Hi guys,

Planned a family trip to Goa this coming weekend. I am clear about the route till Belgaum. Need your expert opinions on Belgaum to Calangute. Should I go via chorla or dodamarg?

My mother is going to come with us so don't want to go thru too much rough roads.

TIA.

Hi All,

Planned Hyderabad to North Goa with family. I am clear about the route till Belgaum. After Belgaum which route to take?

Belgaum - Chorla Ghat - Goa or

Belgaum - Dodamarg - Goa ??

I am mainly concerned about the road condition as my mother would also be joining us for the trip.

Thanks in advance!!

Hello,

Even I am planning the same trip soon. By the way - what are your plans during this Covid-19 travel to Goa? Regarding food and stay? Suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Go through this post for the latest update:

I have just returned from Goa to Hyderabad on Oct 4 2020. Here is the route update (latest)

Take the below route

HYderabad>Zaheerabad>Humnabad>Gulbarga>vijaypur>Bagalkot>Belgum>Goa.

Same route to return as well.

Things to note:

1)Humnabad to vijaypur is a excellent highway(NH50) just stick to the highway.(do not use the Google maps on this route. Once you hit NH50 from Humnabad to vijaypur via Gulbarga(Kalburgi), Just stick to this highway and do not take any diversion suggested by Google maps. ***

2)From Vijaypur to belguam it's via BagalKot and this road is also excellent, just stick to the highway, and do not take the diversions or shortcuts suggested by Google maps.

3) From Belgaum to Goa, take via Khanapur>Anmod>Mollem>goa.(this road is also good with some minor patches here n there but overall strech is good.(**also do not take the Jamboti >chorla ghat route, it's fully damaged due to recent rains and it will be a hell ride****)

***Routes suggested by Google maps from belgaum to goa is closed for highway works. If you take the route suggested by Google then you will end up with a huge diversion n rerouting.

****I did not find any decent food joint, most of them are unhygienic, if it's tea n coffe u can get anywhere on road side.  Better carry your food n snacks****

Additional Tip: carry your RC, License and insurance Soft or hard copy and PUC certificate(Hard copy) I was stopped by cops along the karnataka n goa.

Thanks for the info.

I need to travel to Calangute, and I was wondering how the road from Belgaum to Calangute via dodamarg?

It would be helpful if you share some insights on this.

Thanks Gowtham for that very helpful update. A few questions: any COVID related paperwork that you needed at any checkpoints along the way? Leaving Hyderabad did you take the ORR or just take the BHEL to Patancheru road? Some post suggested avoiding the Khanapur route from Belgaum to Goa. Seems all ok according to your update. Have had tons of times where Google took us onto some crazy village roads and lost time. At what points do we listen to Google and at what points ignore it😁 Finally any suggestions for clean, hygienic eating joints on the route that are open? Thanks a ton

Hello guys,

I completed Goa trip from Bidar (near Zahirabad) to North Goa and back. Below is the lates update for the period 16th October 2020 to 19th October 2020.

Onward journey: 16th Oct 2020

Started 4:30 AM, reached Calangute by 7:30PM, took 3 stops 20 mins each.

Bidar - Zaheerabad - Humnabad - Kalburgi - Jevargi cross- Bijapur - Bagalkot cross - Belguam - Chorla Ghats - North Goa.

Return journey: 19th Oct 2020

Started 4:30AM, reached Bidar around 9PM, including Bijapur historical places visit + Lunch at Kamat Hotel (2:30pm - 5pm)

Calangute - Panjim -  ponda - mollem - anmod ghats - hemmadga - khanapur - Belgaum - Bagalkot cross - Bijapur - Kalburgi - Humnabad - Bidar.

There is a blocked river bridge (attached route pic) between Kalburgi and jevargi due to water overflow, need to take a one hour detour from a village near the river. Single lane road and all traffic diverted from this village only.

I found the ponda - mollem - anmod ghats- hemmadga route very beautiful and very smooth. Road from hemmadga to khanapur was single lane road but is clean. This route passes thru Bhimagarh Wild Life Sanctuary which is very beautiful. We crossed this section during sun rise and roads looked heavenly specially thru the sanctuary.

Lastly, I found the chorla route a little dangerous to travel with family as the curves are very steep and heavy vehicles moving at high speeds. (May be this was my first experience driving in ghats) I found it little thrilling and mostly because my family was travelling along.

PS: this thread helped me plan the trip successfully and I want to thank each and every contributor for sharing the updates. Hope this little info here will help people plan their travel effectively.

Thanks and happy revving!!!

You wouldn’t need any NOC to travel to Goa.. All the restrictions have been lifted and it’s a freeway.

Thanks for the information!

Also, wanted to check how much it would cost approximately for the tolls.. This will help on Fastag recharge..

Hi all,

Please update on the best route for Hyd-Goa-Hyd section.

I plan to go home to hyd for Diwali and so far have heard that Mollem-Anmod-Belgaum-Bagalkot-Vijayapura-Jevargi-Gulbarga-Humnabad-Hyd is the best option currently.

Hello,

I did a Goa trip some two years ago and took Hyderabad - Zahirabad - Bagalkot - Belgaum - Goa route. The worst part was the heavy truck movement due to loading at jetties as I was entering Goa (from the Dhoodsagar falls side). I am planning for a road trip again from Hyderabad to Goa (south Goa). It will be helpful, if two to three things can be advised based on my travel itinerary,

1. Vehicle : Tata Safari Storme (85 k on ODO)

2. Family Members : 3 (including me, wifey and kiddo who's 8), so may have to halt for using the wash

3. Estimated Start time from Hyderabad to Goa: 5 AM - 5:30 AM

4. Stay : 3 to 4 days, already booked

5. Estimated Start time from Goa to Hyderabad : 12 PM or so

The key queries are :

1. What are the best halts for a wash

2. Which is the best route from Belgaum to South Goa

3. How safe is the night drive from Goa to Hyderabad (I have done this once but the stretch of Bagalkot to Zahirabad is almost empty during night time).

4. While I know that I will get best Kunda in Belgaum and Dharwar Peda, cashews from Goa. Is there anything else which can be bought from either Goa or enroute.

Thanks in Advance
