Hyderabad to Rajahmundry has two routes.

Regular route:

Best route to take.

Distance : 450 kilometers.

Road condition : excellent 4-lane

Hyderabad --> Suryapet --> Vijayawada --> Tanuku --> Rajahmundry.

Alternative route:

Distance : 400 kilometers

Road condition: Worst

Hyderabad --> Suryapet --> Khammam --> Sathupally --> Aswaraopeta --> Jangareddigudem --> Devarapally --> Rajahmundry.

I took the this route to drop a friend at Khammam.

Khammam to Devarapally road is in worst state, It is full of potholes, Avoid this route at any cost.

How's Kurnool to Rajahmundry route?

@Krish .. If you are planning to start early in the morning from Rajamundry, I would suggest you to do this circuit .. Rajamundry - Rampachodavaram - Sileru - Lambasingi - Narsipatanam - Rajamundry.

You will love the drive, the place and the native tribal food (if you prefer to have non-veg)... Absolutely. Make sure you start around 3 or 4 a.m. from Rajamundry..

Fully agree with gowtham , but the amount of time lost in Vijayawada (even through By pass) is huge.

There is one junction (NH 5 from Guntur side) which is jam packed always, from here to Gannavaram , heavy traffic, snarl is at Hanuman junction , in total we loose around two hours.

The alternate route on sathupally - RJY , is , take left at Jelugpally , towards polavaram (virabhadrapuram road) route (The road is relatively good ) and reach RJY , recently(Jan 2017) I travelled to Vizag on this route , I wish to know any other better alternatives.

The Road on Telangana side till border is excellent, the real hell is after crossing Jelugapally (Andhra side), I feel purposefully , the Andhra  stretch is not developed to facilitate Toll gates on NH9 , Telangana Government is really developing Roads , hope AP learns from it's younger brother.

Few points I would like to share.
1.National highways are not under state government control.(States are not responsible)

2.Roads are bad across India, neither Telangana nor Andhar excel in that area.

3.Hyderabad to Vijayawada is newly laid 4-lane, compared to Vijayawada to Rajahmundry/Vizag stretch. Few years back Hyderabad to Vijayawada used to be a nightmare, now it is one of the best.

It's advisable to take Vijayawada highway. Route via Khammam is not advisable. I drove this route today. Here is my review. First of all

Suryapet Khammam road is a 2lane road with out divider. Heavy traffic in this area cannot overtake at all and i would say this road is dangerous because there are heavy trucks , tractors  cattle( buffaloes, sheep and donkeys sometimes)  lot of people going on bikes. Khammam to satupally is Lil decent but the same traffic. From satupally it is worse . You will see lorries , buses and  tractors moving like snakes on the road full of pot holes to avoid pot holes . I have seen 3 accidents due to bad road and worst traffic. So the bottom line is to travel safe avoid this route

Great review @Bhanu It is always advised to take the route via Vijayawada to reach Rajamundry. For the upcoming Sankranthi Festival, I can imagine the usual road rush this stretch is going to be seen. Plan smartly.

Did a quick drive from Hyderabad to Rajahmundry.

Roads are super good between Hyderabad to Vijayawada.
I usually drive on this section during weekends.
But this time it is on mid of the week, roads are deserted.

Vijayawada to Eluru is average.

Eluru to Rajahmundry is pathetic.

Potholes through out drive.

I don't understand, why they are collecting toll on this section.

Finally, a new restaurant is constructed between Vijayawada to Rajahmundry.

Garuda Food Courts after crossing Eluru.
It is located on highway itself. 90% of the construction is completed.

Clean washroom and a huge children play area is available.

Food and ambience are good.
It is similar to Hotel 7.(on the expensive side)

Crossing Vijayawada is always a mess.
Google maps has its on own mind while crossing it.

Now, traffic is allowed under the newly constructed the bridge (near temple).
Also the IRR (inner ring road) made the situation better.

We can cross the city in 30 minutes.

Now we can probably save some time escaping the vjw traffic if we start early from Hyderabad.

Agree on it.
Ideal place for lunch stop over.

Total drive took me 7 hours, since the roads are deserted.

lol, then what about the sections between Hyderabad to Delhi that we drove on.  They have charged us for no roads and single lanes. This one looks much better.

Latest update:
Roads from Vijayawada to Rajahmundry are not in great shape.
Potholes are filled instead of laying new roads.

Not sure why they are collecting toll on these pathetic roads.

Many cars/bikes are in zig-zag mode.
Truck drivers are don't care, most of them are on fast lane.

Drive cautiously specially in the night, some potholes are too deep.

Stick to left most lane. It is much better than right lane.
Some people are driving too close to the median (high speed) to avoid potholes. Accidents are inches away from happening.

I recently went via this route to Rajahmundry.

Hyderabad to Vijayawada is excellent. Vijaywada to Elluru is pretty good, lot of work has been done.

Elluru to Rajahmundry is excellent. Garuda food complex is really amazing - got a 5 star look and the food taste is amazing. Its phenomenally better than 7 resort near suryapet.

Thank you for sharing the latest update.
Looks like most of the road work is completed.

Garuda is the best option on that section. They have neat restrooms.

I had Rasam idly over there, it was amazing.

They are indeed improving the toll gates, some new ones are being constructed with lot more lanes. I did this trip in a hurry, so did not focus too much on road issues. However I did not have any delay or problems with the existing toll gates - fastag worked smoothly, and the staff also guided to come near the wireless transmitter. I was tempted to return via Khammam, but glad I didnt. Will explore the Khammam-Rajahmundry route some time.

BTW, you guys should see sunset over Godavari bridge - its amazing.

Hyderabad to Hamsaladeevi Beach - A hidden Paradise

After a long wait for the December trip, we kick started our vacation to the most beautiful Hamsaladeevi beach located in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

Usually many of them skip this place due to lack of accommodation, but you will find a decent stay in Vijayawada which is around 80 kms approximately from Hamsaladeevi. It is definitely worth travelling so far to see the beauty of this Sagara Sangamam, where river Krishna meets the Bay of Bengal.

We started at an early hour from Hyderabad and reached Vijayawada by 10 AM and checked into the OYO hotel. There are no food joints available at Hamsaladeevi beach so we packed the lunch from the hotel and headed out. Vijayawada to Hamsaladeevi drive took us 3 hours with some breaks.

Hamsaladeevi village is 24 kms away from Avanigadda and we reached Hamsaladeevi by 3 PM. After a long drive from Hyderabad, there was an adrenaline rush gushing out to see this most beautiful place and couldn't wait to snap the sandy beach and the 'river-beach' meeting point. This point is 2 km away from the beach (From Hamsaladeevi village, beach is 4 kms) and we drove our car on the beach side shore to the port to see the confluence.

      Distance : 376 km

Note: Don't take any diversions from the mentioned route else you might end up between bad conditioned roads and longer distances as you pass
