I am planning for a south India road trip in late April- 2019.

I will be starting from Hyderabad and would like to cover madurai, rameswaram, kodaikanal, kanyakumari and anything else across the same route.

Need your expert guidance for this trip. I will be travelling with my wife and 7 yr old kid on Tata Nexon.

I need help in the best route to follow, hotels to stay etc..

Thanks.

Krishna

Hi @Krishnan, Firstly I would like to congratulate you for your plan to do this long drive with your family.

How many days days are you planning to do this in? Depending on the number of days, you will have to chose the route

You can add Munnar to your plan.
It is a must visit place.

While driving back you can either cover places around Kochi (kerala back waters)

or

You can cover places around Chennai (Ponid, Mahabaleshwar etc)

I would suggest you to take Kochi route.

You can cover Munnar/Alapuzza

You can add Trichy/Srirangam and Tanjavur in the list with little deviation from NH 44

I would do something like this:

If you decide the no. of days and must visit place in your itinerary,  we can suggest you hotels/places.

This is some thing what I would like to plan if I go on a similar drive. Yes the same can be customised depending on individual taste and interest

Hello Krishnan,

I did a 7 days trip in 2016 to SOUTH INDIA . My main aim was not to rush and spend sufficient time in each place to cover almost every tourist destination . I was the SOLO DRIVER in the entire trip and I traveled with my Family (PARENTs,SPOUSE & my two Daughters)  My Itnery was as below.

1. HYDERABAD TO BANGALORE (NIGHT HALT IN BANGALORE)

2. BANGALORE TO MADURAI (NIGHT HALT IN MADURAI)

3. MADURAI TO RAMESWARAM (NIGHT HALT IN  RAMESWARAM)

4. RAMESWARAM TO KANYAKUMARI ( 2 NIGHT HALT IN KANYAKUMARI)

5. KANYAKUMARI TO BANGALORE (1 NIGHT HALT IN BANGALORE)

6. BANGALORE TO HYDERABAD

Though I Traveled by my CAR to In MADURAI, RAMESWARAM and KANYAKUMARI  but  I had booked LOCAL TAXIs (TRAVERA)  in each place to visit all tourist places to save time and concentrate on sight seeing rather than struggling on city traffics. There are many many tourist places in these destinations to be covered and the sequence in which each tourist places to be covered is very important to save time .  So I preferred to hire local TAXIs in each of these destinations. In MADURAI , RAMESWARAM & KANYAKUMARI , I paid Rs 7500/- Total for complete sight seeing.

Thanks
