Hyderabad to Hamsaladeevi Beach - A hidden Paradise After a long wait for the December trip, we kick started our vacation to the most beautiful Hamsaladeevi beach located in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. Usually many of them skip this place due to lack of accommodation, but you will find a decent stay in Vijayawada which is around 80 kms approximately from Hamsaladeevi. It is definitely worth travelling so far to see the beauty of this Sagara Sangamam, where river Krishna meets the Bay of Bengal. We started at an early hour from Hyderabad and reached Vijayawada by 10 AM and checked into the OYO hotel. There are no food joints available at Hamsaladeevi beach so we packed the lunch from the hotel and headed out. Vijayawada to Hamsaladeevi drive took us 3 hours with some breaks. Hamsaladeevi village is 24 kms away from Avanigadda and we reached Hamsaladeevi by 3 PM. After a long drive from Hyderabad, there was an adrenaline rush gushing out to see this most beautiful place and couldn't wait to snap the sandy beach and the 'river-beach' meeting point. This point is 2 km away from the beach (From Hamsaladeevi village, beach is 4 kms) and we drove our car on the beach side shore to the port to see the confluence. Distance : 376 km Ride: Honda City Fuel : Petrol Mileage : 15 kmpl Hotel : OYO rooms (2000/- per night) Best Route 2016 Hyderabad --> Suryapet --> Vijayawada -->Pedapulipaka --> Madduru --> Thotlavalluru --> Nimmagadda --> Avanigadda --> Nagayalanka --> Chodavaram --> Hamsaladeevi Beach Note: Don't take any diversions from the mentioned route else you might end up between bad conditioned roads and longer distances as you pass- 84 replies

Road trip : Mumbai to Hyderabad. Old Route: Mumbai --> Pune --> Solapur --> Akkalkot --> Kalaburgai --> Sedam --> Parigi --> Chevella --> Gachibowli (Hyderabad) 2021 Route update: Mumbai --> Pune --> Solapur --> Zaheeraba --> Gachibowli (Hyderabad) It is completely 4-lane road. Do road work we used to divert via Parigi. Now you can stick to national highway. Friends - here's a brief synopsis of the Mumbai to Hyderabad drive on 29th April. Needless to say, @Ranger directions and suggestions were spot-on! ? Left Mumbai (Powai) at 5am - this was 30 minutes delayed from plan. By 5:45am, covered the 40km stretch to the start of the e-way. Khalapur @ 6am and Talegaon @ 7 am (123 kms from home). Bad traffic on the e-way with lots of heavy vehicles. It was a crawl in the ghats even without a single truck breakdown. exited the e-way at 7:20am. 8:15am & 172 kms - Pune city exit and start of NH 65. Drive through the Pune city section and through 235 kms of NH 65 can be trying because of cross traffic. Lots of nurseries & eateries in this section till Solapur. At 188 kms, Suruchi Restaurant and many mini restaurants dot the area At 200 kms, Vithal Kamat. For the record, we did not eat at either of these restaurants Refuelling of the Yeti done at BPCL bunk @ 358 kms (10:45am) The only point of confusion was when I reached a fork where the signage indicated the left fork going towards Solapur. Enquired with a local and was told that I should be taking the right fork as that was the Solapur bye-pass The road from Solapur to Akkalkot was a single road with no divider for the majority part. A section of it was getting tarred and there was 1 KM that was particularly nasty. Hit the Moroom Akalkot road @ 445 kms at 12:20pm At 1:30pm and 524 kms away from home, entered Kalaburgai/Gulbarga - the land of toor dal. Pulled into Hotel Lumbini Grand (1:45pm and 532 kms) for lunch. Fantastic recommendation, Ranger!! Good food and neat washrooms. Post lunch at 2:45pm, hit SH10 - 2 divider-less lanes. 4pm and 670 kms fromMumbai, entered the state of Telangana. Road changes character and the smooth Karnataka roads transform into rough patches! We pass by Chevella at 5:10pm (690 kms) Finally, 747 kms later and at 6:35pm, we pull into our destination at Srinagar Colony. Overall, a fantastic drive exposing one to newer facts of the Indian landscape. This trip was all the more brilliant thanks to Ranger razor sharp advice and suggestions . Shall update with toll details and a complete log in a few days. Return journey is yet undecided - it could be either Hyderabad-Bangalore-Mumbai or directly back to Hyderabad. Keep you all posted. Hyderabad to Bogatha waterfalls Distance : 260 Kilometers Drive time : 6 hours (including breaks) Route: Hyderabad --> Jangaon --> Warangal --> Mulugu --> Peddagolla gudem --> Bogatha waterfalls Hyderabad to Warangal road is a mix of both 4-lane and 2-lane. Road condition is above average. Warangal to Bogatha waterfalls : Average road, 2-lane. But the drive is enjoyable as you go through forest. Bogatha waterfalls is a beautiful place. Water is very clean and fresh. Waterfalls is located in the middle of the forest. How to reach Bogatha Waterfalls? You need to walk down at least 2 kilometers to visit this place. The walk itself is fun as you go through the forest. It is not accessible via road. (less crowd ) Other places to cover en-route? You can cover Warangal and Laknavaram Lake which is en-route. Any stay options at Bogatha waterfalls? None, nearest stay is at Warangal or Laknavaram (Telangana tourism) Food(Restuarents) options at Bogatha Waterfalls? No proper hotels. I would suggest to carry your food. It will be fun having a small picnic. You can pack the food from Warangal. PC: Girish

I am planning to drive down from Mumbai to Kolkata in the month of September. What would be the proper route to take so that I encounter good roads? I won't mind taking detours if the road conditions are good and time is not a constraint.

I regularly commute on Hyderabad to Vijawayada highway, almost once in a month from the past 10 years. Hyderabad to Vijayawada distance :275 kilometers Year :2006 It is a single lane road, not enough to fit 3 vehicles at a time. It used take me 7 hours to travel from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. Blind curves. Highest accident ever occurred in the country. One of the busiest, mostly filled with trucks. Worst road condition, filled with unlimited potholes. Driving at night is a suicide.(zero visibility with those high beams) Some overtakes used to take me at least 15 minutes, Imagine 10 trucks trailing each other with no space between them, on a single lane! No proper hotels and washroom Worst fuel quality But I used to enjoy the drive, it is challenging and fun. Year :2017(after a decade) Now it has a 4-lane road, truck lay by lanes, emergency lanes and bridges across villages. It is taking me 4 hours from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. I am saving 3 hours. Many good hotels available, no issues with washrooms. Toll road, with road assistance and standby ambulance for safety. Continues patrol across the highway, last year a huge industrial truck was stuck on highway while taking u-turn. Patrol guys arrived within 15 minutes and took the situation under control. Hotels between Hyderabad to Vijayawada 1. Village Aharam : Malkapur First decent hotel on the highway 2. Highway 9 Restaurant : Nalgonda Good for break fast 3. Hotel Vivera : Nalgonda Recomended, If you are planning to diver towards Nalgonda. 4. Maa palle ruchulu : before suryapet Village style hotel, don't expect luxury. 5. Hotel 7 : suryapet Best in quality, very good washrooms. Recommended for families. 6. Numerous hotel in Suryapet. You get all types verities over here. 7. G-hotel : Suryapet 8.Once you cross Suryapet, you won't find any proper hotels, though you can find many road side dhabas. Please correct If i miss anything. Fuel stations You can find then in every 20 kilometers radius. Tolls It is a complete toll road, elevated 4-lane, on an average you pay around 1 rupee per kilometre, so it should be under 250/-

Hi. I am planning to drive from Mumbai to Srisailam with family. I would be the only driver and so will need night breaks in between. I am confused about the route to take post Solapur. Google map shows 2 routes one via Gulbarga and other via Zaheerabad. Which one is better and a 4 track road with dividers? One friend suggested instead it drive till hubali then to Bellary and then reach Srisailam as the road is good and the total distance might increase only by 150 kms. Please guide. Thanks

Hyderabad to Bhongir fort drive meetup - February 25th - 2017 Start point - Gachibowli (ORR) End point - Bhongir fort Start time - 6:30 a.m. Distance - ~110 kms Objective : A small gathering to meet all the new folks of the club for breakfast at Viveria hotel and drive towards Bhongir fort in a union spirit to continue this year on a cheerful note. Destination description: The Bhongir fort was built upon a single rocky hill in Bhongir, a town in Telangana, located in the Nalgonda district of the state. The Western Chalukya ruler, Tribhuvana malla Vikram aditya VI, built the fort from one single monolithic rock in the 12th century. The fort was originally named Tribhuvanagiri, and eventually the name metamorphosed into Bhuvanagiri and eventually, into Bhongir, which is its present name. It is spread across an impressive area of 50 acres at a height of around 500 feet over the top and is about 50 kms from the Hyderabad skirt. Highlights: Bhongiri fort is the highest fort in India, It is constructed on a single large stone. The shape of the hill is very unique. Bhongir fort tips: No food and water are available at the fort, carry your own water and snacks. Make sure you carry back the trash instead of littering around. Vehicle parking is available at foot hills of the fort. Less crowded. Trek is easy, no gear required as most of the ascent carved of steps on the rocky surface. Not advisable to visit after sunset. Early morning is the best time to visit. Should be extra careful during the monsoon, it may be slippery. Bhongiri Fort timings: Fort is accessible between 10AM to 5PM. Early morning is the best time to visit, you can get into the fort at 6AM from the back entry. It is against rules, but you can buy the ticket while coming back. Bhongiri Fort entry fee: 10/- per head and 50/- per camera. Hyderabad to Bhongir fort route: Hyderabad --> Ghatkesar --> Bhongir fort. Hyderabad to Bhongiri Road condition: It is a 4-lane route, it will not take you more than two hours from Hyderabad. Hotels in Bhongiri: All the hotels are available on Highway as soon as you cross Bhongiri. 1.Hotel Vivera 2. Car : Ford Freestyle Titanium, Petrol 1.2 No. of people – 2 (young couple, both can drive) Avg Mileage – 15kmpl Travel time : 15hrs Google Maps set for route: Miyapur –> Zaheerabad –> Hunmabad –> Gulbarga –> Bagalkot –> Belgaum –> Chorla Ghat –> Goa (Candolim) We got our car washed and fuelled a day before we began our long road trip across South West Coast about which I'll be sharing the details in my upcoming blog . We started as planned from Miyapur (NH65) at 4:30 am, to beat the sorry morning traffic of Hyderabad and to catch a glimpse of rising sun. We were not disappointed as we hit outer highway of Patancheru, we felt like we were gliding in clouds as it was filled with fog and mist. When we reached Zaheerabad around 6:00 AM after crossing the 1st Toll at Kamkole (Rs.90/- Toll charges), we decided to take a quick break as the rising sun just engulfed us with its beautiful rays and colors. Since we were not particular about food (not being foodies) energy bars were enough to fuel us on the go as breakfast saving us ample time towards our destination. The 4-lane roads till Zaheerabad was very smooth. (Travelers remember to stay on NH65, else you will be traversing inside the Zaheerabad city and may be wasting precious time.) We continued straight on the highway and entered the Karnataka border in 15 mins. As we entered Karnataka we were welcomed by patchy roads and speed breakers. My husband gave a humors comment: “Welcome to the world of Speed breakers!” After the 2nd Toll at Mangalgi (Rs.85/- toll charges) we accelerated towards Hunmabad as the roads were smooth. An engrossing conversation made us forget to take left towards Gulbarga and drifted to Mumbai Highway bridge. A sweet voice, by Ford Navigation pre-loaded offline maps, soon alerted us to take a U-turn after a kilometer while Google maps adjusted its route via Basavakalyan. We thanked and appreciated Ford’s invention and took U-turn followed by a right turn underneath the bridge. We continued our journey towards Gulbarga shifting our gears from NH65 to NH50. We progressed to drive on NH50 and realized the time was around 8am when we saw a field of Sunflowers pointing at the sun among endless fields of sugarcane and cotton plantation. As there were no good hotels to stop for a tea break we moved on and reached Gulbarga in an hour. Since we had a long way to go, we didn’t want to get inside the city and hence took the ring road approaching towards Vijayapura. During a long journey towards Vijayapura so many windmills across the road welcomed us. We took the advantage of the car's off-roading skills and went closer to the windmills through a field. From the lessons learnt in the morning we ensured to shift from NH50 to NH52 by taking a left turn near Vijayapura. Nearly about an hour after crossing Vijayapura we were amazed to drive on Uttar Karnataka’s longest bridge built on the river Krishna situated in Kolhar. Since we got our lunch packed from home, we took a 15min break near Bagalkot. We resumed our journey at 1pm and reached Belgaum by 3:30pm where we refuelled our car (2nd full tank). As we wanted to drive the Chorla Ghat before Sunset we continued without further breaks. Ghat roads initially were smooth but turned out to be patchy nearing Goa. The sky dusked as we entered Goa and travelled through the dark, narrow and silent lanes of Poriem, Bicholem and Paliem. Travelling through the busy roads of Calangute we reached our destination, Candolim, by 7:30pm. Glimpse of Ghat road We stayed in recently constructed property in a peaceful locality of Pintos Vaddo street in Candolim. Property details: Sonika’s Leisure. A decent hotel with in-house bar & restaurant, swimming pool and AC rooms with attached balcony and excellent Wifi connectivity. Rooms were very neat with sparkling clean bathrooms. Great hospitality and yummy food.

Nagarjunasagar dam 3. A.P tourism hotel (excellent view, no entry charges and food is good ) 4. Ethipothala Water Falls. Food option on Hyderabad to Nagarjuna sagar highway. Current status: Hyderabad to Tuni : Good Tuni to Chilka : under construction Chilka to Kolkata : Good Information shared by @ARAY ***NH 16 - Route update*** Folks planning for a road trip via NH16 to WB next weekend for Durga Puja, please be aware of the latest road conditions. Post Tuni till South Chilka is getting a major road expansion for last 8+ months as we all know. Diversions and all are manageable, however with the recent torrential downpour in the region the soft soil has washed off exposing the cemented Culverts and small bridges that are constructed at the first phase of any NH build or expansion. Due to the absence of proper markings and boards this is more risky. Absence of soft soil or temporary soil in general will further make the cemented bridges even more harder to climb and slush and soft mud can make the situation tricky. People driving low slung sedans and hatchbacks please be careful, there is a high probability of underbelly hits while making the ascend to and decent from the bridges. People with FWD SUV be careful of lateral torque steer in the slush making the car go sideways and out of control. A close friend of mine while driving to Assam has severely damaged the front left lower arm, track rod for steering and partially the ball joints of Honda city. He took that ascent at roughly 32kmph as per his GPX data. Use caution drive slow post Tuni and have a very safe trip everyone !

Last weekend me and Saran decided to explore a new place called Gottamgutta. We started searching online for routes and other information. Even after spending an hour, I couldn't find anything related to routes and places to visit. We decided to start early in the morning and explore this place. Distance : Hyderabad to Gottamgutta : 120 kilometers Route : There are two routes to reach this place. One is a regular route through the village called Chandrampalli (dam). Other route is through few small villages and a forest. We obviously took the forest route. Hyderabad > Sangareddy > Zaheerabad > Govindapur > Mogudampalli > Chincholi wild life scantuary > Gottam Gutta Red marked path is not present in Google maps. Places to visit 1. Hyundai Creta (White) 9) Jeep Compass (Red) Route Taken: Hyderabad (Gachibowli) --> Zaheerabad --> Humnabad --> Solapur --> Indapur --> Hinjewadi (Pune) Places covered: 1) Lohagad fort 2) Pavna Lake 3) Lonavla, Khandala 4) Matheran Planning : Day 1 : Hyderabad to Pune drive details - Started at 5:30 AM in the morning ( due some delays) - Breakfast stop at around 7:30 AM at Hotel Mahindra Paradise https://goo.gl/maps/4ZU7cMJrdkG2 - Very few options on this section due to new roads - Road between Hyderabad to Humnabad is excellent. - Humnabad to Solapur is pathetic, some sections are too narrow. - Solapur to Pune is excellent, but recently new have installed speed bumps near villages. - We had a lunch break at some road side restaurant. - We reached Pune by 6PM. - According to admins, we are very quick compared to last drive. - During last drive they reached Pune at 7PM (started at 4AM) - I think roads improved! - We checked into Hotel Siesta which is excellent (Frankly, I did not expect such a luxurious rooms for the price) Day 2 : Pune to Lohagad fort - We started at 7/8 AM from Pune - Since our accommodation is in outskirts. - We reached highway within 10 minutes - We had breakfast stop Kamat. - Pune to Lohagad roads are scenic. - We reached Lohagad, explored the fort and had lunch break. - We drove to Lonavala, Tiger view point, We are literally above clouds in some sections. - We reached Pune by night Day 3 : Pune to Matheran -We repeated the same schedule of Day2, till breakfast. - We hit the famous Mumbai-Pune expressway - I can clearly see everyone is pushing their cars, it was pure fun for drivers. - Best experience of Mumbai-Pune expressway is during monsoon. - Once we divert from expressway, roads to Mahteran are pathetic. - It took us hours to complete 80 kilometres. - I loved Mathern, they don't even allow cycles. - Only transport option by walk or horse. - Hotels on the hill top are below average. - While driving back we reached pretty quick on the same route. - We reached to Pune to 9PM Day 4 : Pune to Hyderabad - Drive is was uneventful - It is similar to Day1 Apart from 1 Polo puncture, drive is fantastic throughout four days. Drive Hyderabad : Solapur : Pune : Lohagad fort : Lonavala : Pune : Matheran : Pune : Solapur : Hyderabad Road condition: Hyderabad to Solapur : Hyderabad to Humnabad is good and Humnabad to Solapur is bad Solapur to Pune : Very good, but i have seen some uneven sections, It is no where close to Hyderabad-Bangalore sections Pune to Lohagad: Road are narrow scenic and good Loahagad to Lonavala Roads are bad Lonavala to Pune Road are excellent Pune to Matheran It is a mix of good and pathetic roads

Dear All, Apologies for the late reply. I finally completed the trip and it was a great experience. I visited the below locations in span of 6 days and drove 2400 kms. Nallamala Jungle camp Horsley hills Chennakesava temple Sompalam Kadiri Narsimha swamy temple Talakona waterfalls Tirupathi Srikalahasti Day-1 Hyderabad to Nallamala Jungle Camp My planned route is Banglore highway i.e Hyderabad ---> Jadcharla--->Kurnool-->Nandyal--->Nallamala Jungle Camp Pacherla Excellent road conditions. I started my journey at 6:30 am from Hydearabad and reachd Nallama Jungle camp by 10:45 am , with a break in Kurnool for breakfast. For 4000 Rs ( you will get cottage, breakfast,Lunch & Dinner at Nallamala Pacherla) , beware of Monkeys. Safari tour was adventurous but hardly we spot any wild life. Day -2&3 Nallamall Jungle camp to Horsley Hills Planned route Nallamala Jungle Camp --->Rayachoti---> Horsley Hills (1-day break) Roads are very good until Rayachoti. From there to Horsley hills it was pathetic , they are laying new roads and the present condition was worst. Please avoid this road by all means. Horsley hills is a pretty good place to chill down and relax. The weather is pleasant always. Here we had spend two days exploring Horsley hills and neary by places. Chennakesava Temple at Sompalayam is a ancient forgotten temple with unbelievable architecture one should go and watch. We also visite Kadiri Narsimha swamy temple on the way. Day 4 Halt at Tirupati (enroute Talakona Waterfalls) Planned route Horsley Hills--> Talakona waterfalls --> Tirupati Roads are pretty good with speed bumps at some places . Day 5 Tirupati darshan Return Journey Day 6 Tirupati NAM expressway Tirupati--->Srikalahasti-->Nellore-->Kavali-->Ongole-->Nalgonda-->Hyderabad. While coming we took Nellore Kavali NAM express towards Hyderabad. The road condition is Ok with so many toll gates and some huge repairs in between. Somehow I feel and suggest to take Kurnool route to Tirupathi which is really good. Attaching few photos from my tour , please have a look.

Hyderabad to Shiridi has 3 routes. Route :1: Best route Hyderabad --> Chevella --> Parigi --> Sedam --> Kalaburgai (Gulbarga) --> Solapur --> Ahmednagar --> Shiridi Route :2 : Avoid, until 4-lane is completed. Hyderabad -->Zaheerabad -->Solapur --> Ahmednagar --> Shiridi Route :3 : Avoid, not worth it. Hyderabad --> Nanded --> Aurangabad --> Shiridi Plan: 1. Start early in the morning. 2. Break fast stop at Gulbarga (Kalaburgai). You can stop at Lumbini's Grand Hotel (Breakfast + clean washrooms). 3. Lunch stop, you can find dhabas as soon as you cross Solapur Route 1: Road condition Hyderabad to Kalaburgai (Gulbarga): Single lane and road condition is good. Kalaburgai (Gulbarga) to Solapur : Some patch work is going on, must be completed by now. Nothing alarming. Solapur to Shiridi : Road condition is average, but not an issue with your duster, it will fly. -
This was in August 2014 after a very boring and hardworking week which meant we had to get away on a drive to chill out. So after browsing for places nearest to Hyderabad, we narrowed down on Gandikota, popularly known as the Grand Canyon of India. Gandikota is located in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh and got its fame due to the gorge formation caused by the river Penna. Planning: When: August. 1 Drive: Ford Fiesta Fuel Type: Petrol Route: Hyderabad - Kurnool - Gandikota Distance: ~400 kms Local Tour Distance: ~100 kms Time: 9 p.m. (August 1st) - 1 a.m. (August 2nd) {4 hours including breaks} Mileage: Avg. 16 kmpl (with AC) Places: Orvakal (Natural rock formations) Belum Caves Gandikota - The Grand Canyon of India Route: Hyderabad ---> Kurnool ---> Orvakal ---> Belum Caves ---> Gandikota ---> Gooty ---> Hyderabad. Execution: Our initial plan was to start in the wee hours of Saturday and reach Gandikota by evening but changed our plan and left on Friday night. The journey began at 9:00 p.m. from Manikonda and got onto the brilliant ORR and Bangalore highway. After a seamless drive till Jadcherla, stopped for dinner at our favorite restaurant called 'Drive-In' which is on the highway after crossing the toll at Jadcherla. After a sumptuous dinner, we continued our journey and reached Kurnool town at around 12:30 a.m. Not having made any prior reservations, we went in search for a hotel to crash for the night. Based on suggestions in Google, we zeroed in on DVR Mansion near SBI circle. It was a pretty decent deluxe AC room. With lot of driving to be done the next day, we dozed off and got up fresh at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. After some nice complimentary breakfast and coffee, we checked out and started our journey to Orvakal Rock Garden, our first destination of the day. Orvakal is a place situated about 30 kms from Kurnool on NH-18 which is the Kurnool-Ongole route. It is famous for its natural igneous rock formations. Although the AP Tourism website claims to have boating and rock museum, we couldn't find either and there was construction work going on. After a slight drive up-hill, we had a decent view from the top with the rocks in the background. We started to get some clicks with our new Nikon D3200. Next on the list was Belum Caves. Glimpses of the rock garden Beautiful natural igneous rock formations Our drive up the picturesque landscape And our principal photography began Orvakal rock gardens is a mix of sandstone & limestone all over We got involved in some 'Rock Climbing' activities We stopped at a longer crack, probably about 20-25 ft high Belum caves, supposedly the longest caves in India after Borra, is about 80 kms from Orvakal. The route is decent not the 4-lane highway so took us about 2hrs to reach the place with breaks. There was an entry fee of about Rs. 50 and we went exploring deep inside the caves. People with breathing problems have to be careful as the caves are quite deep with not many air vents. After taking several pictures of the beautiful caves, we were completely exhausted by the time we finished our exploration. Trying to paraphrase Katrina Kaif's dialogue from 'Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara'........Driving is like meditation for me.....:P:P Done with the cheezy bollywood dialogue reference for my first post, I must say I am extremely thrilled to have found a bunch of like minded folks in the 'India-Drive' Team. Looks like an awesome space to share your travel stories and road trip experiences. Some of the pics in the posts here are simply breathtaking. Kudos guys!! Never knew there were so many places in and around “mana†Hyderabad that one can simply drive down to during the weekends. Now that I know where I can get great suggestions, I am sure my weekends will be way more fun than usual. For my first post, I am going to share my most recent travelogue....its almost a month old. But, better late than never!! P.S.: Not a great writer....so excuse me if anyone finds the language crude.. Also, a budding photographer...YES!!! I am one of those who thought buying an SLR would make me a PRO at it...But Hey!! I am trying to get better at it....I have tried to share my experience in as much detail as possible. Please feel free to suggest additions that I can make to my future posts (there will be a lot of them..) Planning: The month of September was coming to an end, and we all know what happens when some one says October 2nd - Gandhi Jayanthi!!...With all due respect to the "Father of the Nation" people now consider it just a public holiday. Some people stock up their bars before hand and some plan a quiet holiday with the folks at home. So, I heard from one of our common friends that a bunch of guys from the India Drive team were planning a weekend getaway to Hampi. Interestingly, I was told that another group from India Drive was also driving down to the same place from Bangalore. Always, on the lookout for a great drive and meeting new people, I managed to join the folks at Hyderabad and decided to take this trip. HAMPI, popular as a hitch hiker's dream destination, is famous for the ancient architecture and the innumerable ruins. Typical tropical climate and hot weather in the area makes the monsoons the best time to visit HAMPI. A visit to such historic places make you wonder how vastly rich and incredible our glorious nation once was. If only we all were fortunate enough to have lived in the Golden age. Mind you, HAMPI still is a very beautiful place and connoisseurs of fine architecture will surely love it but you will be forced to think as to how much more beautiful and majestic it would have been in its prime. Enough of the build up....I will get down to business now... When: October 2 - October 4 2015 Drive: Volkswagen Polo Fuel: Diesel Distance: Approx. 350 kms (One way) Travel time: 7 hours including breaks Mileage: Avg. 15 Kmpl Accommodation: Hotel Rock Regency, Hosepet. Price: 1850/- INR per night (A/C Deluxe room) Routes: There are a couple of other routes which one can take to reach Hampi. One of them keeps you on the NH7 much longer and takes you to Hampi via Kurnool, Guntakal and Ballari in that order. Still, I would suggest the Raichur road as the best one in spite of the bad batches as it saves you considerable time and also because it seems to a busy route with a lots of greenery around you on your way. Route - 1: Hyderabad - Shamshabad - Mahbubnagar - Makthal - Deosugur - Raichur - Sindhanur - Gangavathi - Hampi Route - 2: Hyderabad - Shamshabad - Jadcherla - Kurnool - Gooty - Guntakal - Ballari - Hospeta - Hampi Route Taken: Hyderabad - Shamshabad - Mahbubnagar - Makthal - Deosugur - Raichur - Sindhanur - Gangavathi - Hampi Places to Visit: 1) Vittala Temple Complex 2) Underground Shiva Temple 3) Virupaksha Temple 4) Anegundi on the Tungabadra river 5) Hampi Bazar 6) Hemakunta group of temples 7) Many other ruins scattered around. -
A day to be remembered forever, 2016 is the year that I have joined in this beautiful group since then Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve was always on my bucket list. many attempts planned since then and nearly after two years, I got the chance to go. I don't want to stress more on the routes and other details as there are enough threads regarding the same. rather I would like to share my favourite photos that I have shot in my three days stay and safari at Pangdi and Madnapur gate. never the less I will share with you people some necessary information like stay, safari details, gates, and some knowledge of wildlife that I have gained. Started at 6:00 in the morning from Kompally and reached by 3:00 in the afternoon. remember that no one can help you with the routes. it's always better to contact someone at the resort and ask them to guide you in person. except for Jio, no other sim card is going to work. I stayed at Mahua Tola Resorts, I can say that it is the best in the place. a bit on the higher side, yet friendly staff, manager and good food. we were the only family the three days and never we felt insecure. Manager Shukla is a very nice person, he will come with us to the Safari and make it a very memorable and enjoyable one. Coming to the safari, it's always good to ask the resort people to book. because at the gate I have seen few facing some problems. if it's the resort people, its hassle free. this is personal opinion though. As people say, it's not so easy to spot a tiger. a tiger spotting depends on our luck. a tiger mainly sits just beside or few meters away from us inside the forest, yet not visible most of the time. it's just because of the bamboo trees. Tadoba is full of bamboo trees and that makes it very difficult to spot one even if it near us. you will be tempted by the pugmarks, but not always you'll see a tiger. I was really lucky to spot Tigress Junabai with her cubs on my last day safari with the resort manager Shukla at Madhapur gate. Ultimate sightings I can say. It is my father who spotted her while she was resting under a tree shade few meters away from us covered with bamboo trees. I'm not a pro, yet telling my experience with the camera focusing modes and how I got a perfect focus mode settings by experimenting and with the knowledge I have on focus modes which I have learnt studying few books, articles and discussing it in our WhatsApp group. The device, Sony Alpha A6000 with 55-210mm zoom lens. manual mode, shutter speed around 1/500 and above, ISO range 4000 (thanks to my cameras high ISO range ie, 25600), Aperture F:6.3 Focus Mode: Auto, Focus Area: Wide, Metering Mode: Multi This was the mode that I have shot at first only to get the defocused face of a tiger. Thought "this is over, I'm not going to get any more beautiful photos". thought of the focusing modes and settings I have learnt before and adjusted it again to try my luck. Focus Mode: Auto, Focus Area: Centre, Metering Mode: Spot And then I got some amazing pictures. Used Auto Focus Continues while the subject was moving and I can say that this is the camera for super fast autofocus. never missed a detail while shooting with this in AF-C mode. You can check out the langur monkey and male spotted deer jumping. shot in AF-C mode with shutter sped around 1/1000 or above. couldn't get a zoomed one because of the lens.
